For an AR-15-22? I wound up with another one and it came with a $20 red dot on it but I want something a little better but under $200.

I've looked at the Sig, Primary Arms and Holosun's, they all look like they came from the same chinese plant and according to the president of Sig Optics, they did.
Any particular one you like and why?

Vortex Sparc AR - put one on my sons AR, really like it for something in that price ballpark.

I've killed game with Eotech's and shot good groups with them. I love the reticle. They are the only scope/sight the guy who makes Beowulf's has not been able to destroy. If it's 20 below, I won't be hunting or shooting, unless to repel boarders.

I think this is the one I put on one of my AR's. It's been fine and it's only $100.00.

I have a sig romeo 4, had two of them but did not need the second, mine has been on 2-3 guns and is still working fine. It would be perfect for a 22 long rifle, not crazy about the battery compartment but it seems to work fine. its sharper to my eyes than the 2 aimpoints micro's I have one of which I think I am going to sell and replace with another 1-4 scope. Mine came with a mount I think its about 2 years old, still works fine, holds zero, no issues really.

Go to ebay and get a used Aimpoint or Eotech...

I've been impressed with the Sig Romeo 5 I bought last year.
I'll probably buy another one or two, with one going on a 10/22

I like Eo-Tech NV 556's, have them on several farm and house AR's, everyone else here hates them, but, I can see my flips up through them should I or my red dot become disabled.

Thanks guys, I have an EOThingie EXPS2-0 on one rifle that I love, have had Aimpoint H and T2's as well as a Pro and ML3's along with other quality red dots. I understand quality pays off in the long run but not sure I want to spend that much on a plastic 22 for fun. But then again why not?

PA has the Sig Romeo 4M on sale for $199 which seems dirt cheap on one end and too high for a chinese red dot on the other. Of course, the Sig guy says they are designed in Oregon and assembled here with Japanese parts. They were supposedly cleared for use with the FBI but retail was around $500. Anyone know what's going on here?

My Romeo 4 has a sticker on it that says made in China

I'll see what mine says. As best as I can tell the 4M is supposed to be assembled here but as cheap as it is, I doubt it.

I ordered a 4m knowing I wouldn't spend more than that for a game gun....

For under $200; it’s going to be hard to beat the sig/holosun. They are made in China but hold up pretty well.

I had a sparcii on an ar for a little while. It wasn't bad.I finally splurged on an eotech when they dropped to around 350 last fall.

A bushnell trs25 wouldn't be a bad optic for a little 22.I had one on a ruger charger.

Yup, get the Romeo 5 from PSA. Anything better (i.e. Aimpoint) costs a whole lot more.

Just ordered one. It gets really good customer reviews on various websites. For $119.99 tyd it was worth it just to try one out for myself. Now I just gotta figure out what to put it on...

Buy another rifle of course...

I got my Romeo 4 in today and took the mount off to loctite all the screws and saw Designed in Oregon, assembled in China.

For $80 less, I think the 5 is the better deal.

What's the difference?
The compare tool on the Sig website is worthless.

I'm not sure other than the 4M has a circle dot or a regular dot. Somewhere in production they changed production to US but mine is an older China version. That's why they closed them out for $100 off. As for any other changes, I looked at too many the past few days and it's all a blur now.

The 4M comes with a high and low mount. Rubber lenses caps and a bikini strap cap. An anti reflection device and a tool for the screws. Lifetime warranty and a battery. Not sure what the 5 comes with.

Mine is older, had a sliding drawer the battery goes into, it still seems to work fine, holds zero, lights up, etc. the dot is finer and is easier for me to discern than an aimpoint dot for some reason.

I see this dot better too and I believe it's because the Sig, Holosun and Primary Arms dots are LED and our astigmatism distorts it less.

I'm gonna shoot today and see how I like it, I think it'll be fine for a 22.

Romeo 4M worked very well, sighted in on a 1" dot at 25 yards and went to shooting plates from 15- 50 yards.

I do prefer the single dot over the circle dot, it's quicker for me and as a buddy put it, he's looking at how nice the circle is instead of the aiming point.

It'll be fun in Steel Challenge and Metal Madness.

I have a primary arms advanced dot , and very happy with it. Build quality very good , glass great and it was around $150 . It has the 50000 battery life , and until now I didn’t touch the battery for the last year and a half.

Whats the story on these Romeo 5'S?

Worthy? Ideal for 100/200 yards on a AR-15 in .223, or is a 1x4 scope better in that application?

I can’t comment on the Romeo specifically, but have experience with others (Aimpoint, EOTech, Vortex, etc - have 3 red dots and 2 SWFA 1-4’s On 5 different AR’s currently) and personally I much prefer an illuminated 1-4 scope unless weight is a big factor.

If I was an “operator”, maybe I’d think differently... but, using the 1-4 on 1x and illuminated, I feel it’s just about as good as just a red dot - maybe just a tad slower to get behind/on target but honestly not bad at all. But I not competing, etc, just for fun, home defense, hunting, etc.

And for 100-200 yards, definitely give me the 4x capability.

I'm new to the Sig, PA, Holosun type red dots and can't comment on how they will hold up on a 223. I did see a PA dot go down on a buddy's 10/22 but it started life by taking a swan dive off his AR when the mount screw broke. He shot it quite a bit on the 10/22 until it died a few months shy of the warranty running out. They replaced it no questions asked.

The Romeo 4m was cleared for use on AR's by the FBI which is why I started to look at them. Mine is on a 22 of course but if I was putting one on a real AR, I'd go Aimpoint PRO or EOTech.

But my red dot uses are limited to 100 yards, beyond that I prefer a low powered scope.

Actually I prefer a scope beyond 50 yards

It's really not the gun that they are on that causes a problem so much as it is just the quality of components & the build design itself so there's a reason Aimpoints & Eotech's cost more.




I agree, very much past 50 yards, a scope with the right reticle, is as fast for me as a RD & much more precise, plus the benefit of better target identification.

AR's kill more optics with the heavy carrier and buffer going forward than 10/22's so if they are rated for an AR, they will be fine on a 22.

I bought one of the newer EXPS-2's with the L3 markings and I really like it. I wanted to try one again because my astigmatism destroys an Aimpoint dot. For normal folks, I think an Aimpoint PRO is a better value and is a better sight but I can shoot better with the EOThingie so that's what I chose.
