That will be a real nice rifle. Have you considered a 270 WSM? I like the devil out of that caliber!

I add new rifles to my repertoire every year, but I keep reaching for the old stalwarts when crunch time rolls around. This year a new Dakota 10 will be added before the season rolls around so I may break with tradition. (If the semi-custom single shot gets delivered in time.)

You can love your guns but they can't love you back. After death, everything you own will belong to someone else or end up at the landfill. For these reasons, I contain my desires to buy more hunting gear although it's not always easy.

I can see your point, but I also have no desire to be the richest corpse in the cemetery.

I talked to my smith yesterday about another custom single shot. Thinking of a 38-55

I've got an old 1966 made Model 70 push feed that I bought in August or September of 1966, can't remember exactly when. I've been hunting with it ever since. It's killed around 70-75 deer, can't remember exactly, but I've killed over 40 with it myself. Last year, 2017, I killed a nice buck with it. It's my go to hunting rifle. It's a .270 Win. I'm sort of a collector of various rifles in various cartridges. I've got everything from 22-250, up through 250 Savage, .280 Rem., 06, a couple of magnums and even a 9.3x62. But when it comes to whitetail deer, in my opinion, I believe the .270 is one of the best. No, there's not 4011 different bullets for it and No it hasn't won Camp Perry, and NO I won't use it for dangerous game in Africa, but for White Tail Deer, it really has no peer. With 130 Grain SGKs or Nosler BTs it's wicked on deer, oh and hogs. Did I mention hogs?

It doesn't have the aesthetics or charisma of a pre 64, but it's a very practical rifle. And it works.

I don't remember if I answered this thread about what I'll get this year, but just in case, I am about through with my Charles Daly Zastava, Commercial 98 chambered in 7x57. A word to the wise, if you have a project or ongoing build don't finish the stock until last. I had a nice hand rubbed oil finish on the stock. But through my ridiculous impatience and trying to get ahead of the game and did the stock while waiting on my gunsmith to barrel the action. I had more fitting to do with the stock and barreled action than I had anticipated and now i need to refinish the stock. Of course it's not going to be like starting over. The pours of the wood are filled and it will consist of mostly surface finishing, but it was so nice and now it's ...well rough. Very short sighted and stupid of me. Oh well, at least I'm getting plenty of practice at finishing stocks.

I found a couple of 99’s made in 56. One is a 358 and the other a 243 to go with the 308 I bought from Fireball2. He said 99’s were addicting. He was correct. They are fun to shoot. I have scopes, mounts, brass, bullets. I got to make time to get them ready for hunting season. I’ve never fired a 358 or a 243 in my life. I never thought I would own a 243.

After recuperating from a financial butt hurt, I am just now settling in to a new to me 1980 Mod 700 classic in .270 Winchester. I just wanted another Classic, I would have taken any standard caliber as I wanted to rebuild my 35 WAI. I shot the classic and it did so well decided to keep it as is. I have a CDL stock and my old 35 WAI ( formerly a Classic 35 Whelen barrel/reamed out to the Ackley) I finally found an affordable donor Mod 700 BDL to rob the action off of. I'll have it together ( well, I "won't", my smith friend will do it!) in a couple months. I have a long history with the 35 WAI and I look forward to using it again. I'm also looking forward to playing with this .270 as, while I've owned many through the years, I never killed any game with one. Well, I finished off my Godson's Spanish Goat he shot, and a jackrabbit, but that's it. smile

The 243 is a great caliber, I've had at least one for longer than I care to remember and have taken a truck load of white tail, muley's and antelope with one using nothing other than the 100gr Nosler Partition. The 358 is another excellent cartridge, with Sierra 225's it's the hammer of Thor on deer and makes a nice woods rifle for either deer or elk. I think you'll enjoy both.

Nope, all done buying new ones. Over the years I always started with a good enough rifle then proceeded to fix it. Early example was my '62 do all M700 BDL 7mm RM. First it got its action blueprinted, barrel turned down to a #1 taper and recrowned, hard chrome plated and bead blasted and the springs and internals nickle plated and the trigger reworked. Next year it went in for a Kevlar stock and full camo paint job. The next year the 2.5-8x36 Leupold got moved to my 10/22 and a Swarovski 30mm 2.5-10x42 PH went on it. All done now at 7# total and a rather outstanding mountain rifle it is. My Mkll Ruger 7mm-08 use to be a .308, but that got fixed too. The back up 99F .300 Savage is in right now for a trigger job. And our deer season is only one buck and 9 days long. Why keep buying new ones when what you've got works?

My other auto is a .45

New one? I’m oogling a Tikka T3 superlite 6.5 Creedmoor. If I don’t get it time I’ll run my 280AI again or current 6.5. Just want something under 8.5-9 lbs for still hunting. Not hard hunting with a 9+ pound rifle just seems to add up when you add it to a 200 lbs. deer that you’re dragging. After that I’ll trim the heard some for a 35 Whelen build.

Presafety Marlin 444s if I run across one in really good condition.
North haven marlin xs7 in .308 in really good condition also.

Also got an eye on a really pristine BRNO mauser in .308 for 450 at a local pawn shop.
Someone did an excellent job on it.
Was kinda impressed with it actually.
But I also think I dont "need" another mauser.
But "want" is another matter.

Hanco, I'm building 3. A 99 Savage 30-30 Mannlicher, a 338-06 on a G33-40 action and a 250Savage on a Rem SA. Doing some of the work myself and farming some out. I think all 3 will be finished by the time season comes. powdr

Got a new/used 58 caliber Hawken. Shoots good with first load I tried and will spend time plinking and getting to know it the rest of this year before hunting gets going. Did the long range stuff a while and enjoy/enjoyed it, but wanting to mix things up again.
