First time I have seen this question. I already had a T/C 25-06 Pro hunter that shoots sub MOA with the now discontinued Hornady 100 grain and 120 gr HP. The 25-06 Barrel took less than 20 rounds to find an accurate hunting load for both bullets. But i wanted a new lighter carry rifle for the woods and shorter range hunting.

I decided a lighter sporter weight T/C barrel from the T/C custom shop would make a much lighter weight carry rifle. I angst over the caliber selection between the 250 Savage or the 257 Roberts for some time before deciding on the 250 Savage. So I had T/C make up a sporter weight stainless in 26 inches, the barrel mics .725 at the muzzle. The barrel shot sub-MOA from the beginning using 100 gr Hornady's and Reloader 15, the load chrono's 2,882.

I did develop two more loads using Hodgdon H-4831sc using the Hornady 117 round nose, I actually got the load from Steelhead here on the campfire. I also tried and now use the Hornady 117 gr SST bullet with 40.0 of H-4831sc which now my primary hunting load. Velocity is on the slow side of 2,660. The deer I have shot with this load didn't know the difference.

I really see the need for the "Heavy barrel" in the T/C Encore platform UNLESS rifle weight is needed to dampen recoil for a "Selected" cartridge as the T/C frame and stocks together don't weigh crap. Then again the termed "Short Action" cartridges are more than enough for eastern whitetails in a sporter weight T/C Encore platform.

If I felt the need for an additional T/C barrel I would only select a sporter weight profile and would again ANGST over the cartridge selection of either the 257 Roberts or the 6.5 Creedmore.

I will say with my very limited kills with the 250 Savage, the shortest yardage is 176 yards and the longest exceeded 346 yards, the little.250 performance far exceeds its powder case capacity.

I started to buy a barrel for my Encore, but I came across one in a Savage 99. I was going to order a 22" standard contour barrel. It would make a short, nicely balanced rifle in the Encore.

I had a 15 inch pistol barrel many years ago on my Encore frame. It was very accurate. Killed more than a bunch of woodchucks and a few deer with it. Gave it to a friend and he still has it. His daughter killed her first buck with it.

Yeah I do. I use it primarily for a predator rifle.
MGM 26" barrel. Have only shot Coyotes with it. Puts nice holes in them.

Load to shoot this group, 3 shots at 100 yards; WW 22-250 brass sized up, 87 grain Speer TNT, 39 grains of Ramshot Big Game and WW large rifle primer. Bullet seated just off the lands. 3 shot groups are always under 1/2 inch if I'm trying real hard with this load smile Oh yeah, with a cheap 4x Bushnell scope...
Accurate and no recoil.. what's not to like!
Group measures .232" center to center.

My Grandpa bought a model 1899 Savage 250-3000 take-down levergun in 1918. First centerfire rifle I ever shot. Shot that rifle a lot growing up. My older brother has it now. Love that rifle and love the 250-3000 cartridge! So there is some history in my family using that gun and cartridge. My Grandpa used it to help feed his family in the Great Depression in Wisconson and Minnesota from the stories I was told as a boy.

(I hope the image shows up...LOL)

I have an Encore with a Fox Ridge 1:10 twist 250Sav BBL that is 24" long. It is a nice package with a 3-12X42 Sightron scope on a "thumb hole" stock. It shoots 75gr through 120HPBT bullets at only about 100fps less than what a .257 Roberts will make little bitty groups on paper. It's not fussy about loads and the recoil seems to be even less than my .243. My Wife has shot a couple of deer with it, and neither one went more than a few yards (she moved on to a "repeater" in a .35 Marlin). I use it mostly for target shooting, for I have a Rem. 700 ltd that I occasionally hunt with. Either gun will take far more pressure, thus more velocity, than what is normally published for the Savage 99's; however, it is so accurate and pleasant to shoot it seems a shame to push the "limit" to get a 100 or more feet per second. While it will handle 120gr bullets, the 100gr bullets and the cartridge are "made" for each other using RL15, Win 760, or IMR3031.

6.5 Grendel is pretty much the same thing. The brass and ammo for the 6.5G are easier to come by.

True, but, who wants aGrendel when you can have a Savage!!!
The cool factor.....
By the way, my 25-06 Encore was sub moa also.
My 260 isn't there yet..... It may not survive.....

The Grendel is a nifty little cartridge, but it is not as potent as the 250 Savage.

Regarding availability of 250 Savage brass, Hornady makes it as a regular product. If you can't get Hornady brass, it is easy to neck 22-250 brass back up to its parent cartridge. I have owned and shot a bunch of 250s, and one 250 AI. I like the round a lot. Currently I own a Savage 99 F in 250 -3000 (1 in 14" twist) and a Savage Axis with an E.R. Shaw barrel chambered in 250 Savage (1 in 10" twist). The 99 has a 22" barrel and the Axis wears a 24" barrel.

I like both, but the 99 won't shoot bullets heavier than 90 grains very well. My particular rifle won't shoot 100 grain bullets worth beans. Some other similar rifles will, mine won't. That said, it will shoot the 87 grain bullets it was designed for very well, and will shoot Sierra 90 grain HPBTs accurately, too. That Sierra bullet is a particular favorite of mine, having shot many at woodchucks out of a 25-06 back in the 1980s.

The Axis rifle is very accurate. Regarding velocity, it will push a 100 grain bullet to 3,000 with no problems and excellent accuracy. I haven't done much shooting with heavier bullets, but intend to. It is a fine little cartridge.
