Even though my RAR shoots all tipped 30gr better, really signficantly better than 40gr ammo, I see Federal lists a 50gr JHP.

Anyone shooting this round and if so, how is the accuracy?

I have 3 22 magnum rifles. My Ruger 10/22 won't stabilize the Fed 50. It is sub MOA with CCI plastic tip 30 grain. My Ruger 77/22 loves both the CCI 30 grain plastic tip and 50 grain Federal. Sub MOA with both at 50 and with the Fed 50 at 100. I have 2 range trips with my RAR Predator. Both days were windy. My notes just say "potential" next to the Fed 50 load. I have to find a calm day to get a good feel for how that rifle likes it. I'd say it's definitely worth a try. It's a pretty stout bullet that needs some resistance to open it up.

I have some to try but have not done so yet. I think the 50 grainer would be devastating in a short barreled defense revolver.

I have a stainless RAR that likes them. It likes 40gr. CCIs a little better, and the POI changes a bit at 100 yards with the 50s, but the group size is comparable (just under an inch on a still day). I like the 50s, but I think their utility is limited to larger varmints like coyotes, bobcats, and badgers.
For other critters, the 40s are probably better, they shoot flatter than the 50s, but if you can call in the larger critter, the 50s are probably a better choice. Keep the ranges under 125 yards or so.

I used to use them out to 125 yards. They worked fine on woodchucks, fox, and coyote (the latter does best with a shoulder shot so they don't run). They were accurate enough in a Marlin 882 to make head shots on woodchucks out to 125.

My 22WMR all prefer the 30g CCI and Hornady V-Max. Close second are CCI 40g HP and Aguilar Silver Eagle. Last year I bought a couple boxes of the Fed 50g to try. RAR didn’t like them while the 783 shot them ok. I plan on experimenting more this year. Have been picking up a variety of 22 WMR ammo. Nice to have options again.

It seems backwards to use the 30gr in the WMR even though they shoot good, 40gr would be fine but 45-50gr in my mind would be about right.

I will buy a few boxes of 45-50 including Federal and if none work, I did stock up on the tipped 30gr.

I've accumulated a nice sampling of .22 WMR ammo, including the 50 gr. Fed, to try when the weather gets right.

It will be interesting. I have a plastic stock T-Bolt and a single shot Handi Rifle. Will see how they shake out, what ammo they like or don't like.

Accuracy is average and POI is so far away from anything else that I gave up on it.

You got that right. In my one gun that loves it, it will be the only ammo I use in that rifle.

I don't know why you'd need the 50's for larger critters when I've shot the 40 Win. HP's completely through the rib box of 120-140 lb. deer more than once.

Because my rifle doesn't like the Winchester load at all. It shoots CCI and that Federal load quite well, but WInchester shoots like crap in my little Ruger.

The 40 gr CCI's should work about as well as the Win's. I can't tell much difference on game.

My magnum research shoots the Winchester, and cci great, it shoots the federal 50s a bit better but it shoots them all st the same poa/poi

Yikes! That represents an attitude changer.

I would try thr 50gr, in Ruger single six for my close ranges G-hogs. Out of the 5.5 inch barrel it would be a thumper! I currently shoot CCI 40gr HP load out of the pistol and it does a fine job of G-hogs. However, in my savage 93 the Hornady 30gr. V-max rules the day. I get an avg. of 2240 fps (chroned) from my 19 inch barrel. That 50gr load is interesting.

That's been my experience, too. Their POI difference is the real killer for me. I'd rather have a rifle sighted so I can use several loads interchangeably, rather than sighted for one oddball POI.
