Howdy. Anyone live in the area? I will be working there this Summer at the dam.
While lodging is provided, it is 30 miles away.
I am bringing my light salt water boat (Arima 17 / E-Tec 90)
Does anyone live in the area?
I may be looking for basic lodging too...PM me please, even if it is to talk about angling the area. Thanks, Bill

Don't live on the Columbia, but one should be able to find plenty to fish for. Salmon, sturgeon, walleye, bass in the John Day. Steelhead runs have been in the toilet. Also $$$ to be made catching pike minnows (squaw fish). Some full time folks have done 80 to $100K a year on those. Should be an adequate boat for the water.

'Fished reward last year.Take was way off. Portland area pike minnow guys not in the money.
Serious violators caught netting pike minnows in non reward areas and checking them into reward stations.
I live 4 miles from Chinook Landing in Gresham. Very low early season pike minnow take. Salmon run was soft. Steelhead more common than carp here!
I grew up fishing walleye and smallmouth bass in Michigan. 'Got old fishing salmon, trout and steelhead!

That Arima is a great boat. You should do fine in it.

I have had my Arima 10 years mostly in AK. When I left AK I sold the engines. Replaced the sorry trailer ( Alaska eats Calkins trailers) with a King Saltwater 2550 ( I know, it is for a 20' boat but I was driving from Prince Rupert. I bought the best and biggest trailer I could justify) Rigged the boat with a 90 E-Tec from a really great shop in Clackamas. No compromise. I did prop it a little slower with a 4 blade and I can single hand troll or Hog line on the main engine only. Burns so little fuel I no longer need or miss the kicker...
