I still like the hand drill with brass screw and grinding compound. Always get nice sharp rifling edges.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost....

Do you just leave it bare metal when you finish?

Yoiu can. I don't. One of the cold blues will do. Bichwood Casey Superblue is good. Available in most sporting goods places - Walmart should maybe have it, Sportsman's Warehouse, Bass-Pro, etc. I like Brownell's Oxphoblue really well - but it is tough to get up here (it is deemed corrosive Hazmat - prohibited by air - or at least on passenger craft. Get's very expensive with hazmat fees - and Brownells won't shipi it air.). If you have UPS, or Fed Ex, ground delivery is no problem.. 2 days and it was at my son's place in Denver.
It is a lovely blue color in the bottle. Don'tt confuse it with the mouthwash.

Cut off in a lathe (parting tool), and do the crown while it's still chucked up.
Truth be told, you could just hack it off freehand, throw it in a cold creek with some dead fish, and shoot 1/4" groups at 300 yards if you wanted to....

If you don't have a lathe, the Manson crowning tool seems to be a pretty good- but a bit pricy- alternative...
