Just for clarification. Hornady list their factory 6.5PRC 24" Bbl. load with the 143 ELD-X bullet at 2960fps not 3150. . This is reality. Any one who thinks this bullet at this velocity is a slouch you need only look at it's terminal trajectory. 1.5" high at 100 , 200 zero & only down -6.4 @300, -18.2 @ 400 & -36.2 @ 500. Flat with moderate recoil. To me this is ++++ I wonder if I can get 3150 out of it using their load data for RL 26. Probably not I suspect. I'm waiting for my Mesa to arrive. I'll try the 130 Scirocco and the 130 Accubond since I have them on hand. Probably buy a box of the ELD-X for break in.

26 tends to show excessive pressure a bit too late in my exp and I won't go much past 2950 with it and the 142/143 grainers. YMMV.

Hodgon load data shows that the PRC loaded with a 140 gr in a 24" BBL @ less than 2800 fps with the ultra slow powders. Pressures in the 60,000 + psi range. All other data I have looked at shows 2950 or there about's to be a max safe load. With just a grain or two extra powder, pressures can spike like a rocket. A nice rifle can be ruined in a nano second.

Hornady shows the 6.5 PRC 143 gr factory load at 2960fps. Not 3150. This is a serious contradiction. . No other site I have looked at shows the RPC safely pushing a 140gr bullet much over 2960 . Loads like these are already in the 60,000 psi range. 143 @ 2960,

my take would be the factory loads are moderate pressure geared towards PR match shooters that shoot alot and want a very long barrel life
just a for instance , the 270 cartridge has always been loaded pretty hot , up towards 65000 psi
yet now some folks think if you have a load at the 60000 psi level and you add a grain of powder you will blow your rifle

[s][/s]Don’t rule out IMR 7828ssc. It pushes a 143gr. to 2900 in my 6.5-06.

Thanks, radically different cases but I appreciate your comment and am not ruling out anything.

That’s some good shooting...
My 6.5 PRC barrel is ordered, hopefully I have some data to add before long. First bullet choice will be a 147.

I just joined the 6.5 PRC crowd. I wanted to bump this thread. I am sure more load development has been done over the past few months.

I stopped development two weeks before elk season started and settled on a pedestrian load of 57.5 gr of H1000 pushing the 130 AB to the 3050+ range while grouping .674 for 3 shots at 100. May try some others but not there yet.

A funny thing happened on my way to building a 6.5 PRC, I ran into the 6.5 Creedmoor and bought a Barrett Fieldcraft chambered in that cartridge. Now I am back to the PRC project, but funny thing #2 happening was Europtic selling the Mauser M18 synthetic model at $469, and Bob's your uncle! I expect I will still follow Mule Deer's path in building his initial 6.5 PRC rifle with a rebarrel of his 9.3 Barsness-Sisk. Except my donor is a Rem M700 Ti in .300 SAUM.
I killed my first deer in 19(mumble) with a 6.5X55, and have been stuck on 6.5s ever since, most recently hunting with a 6.5-'06 built on a Remington M700 with a MacMillan synthetic stock and a Shilen barrel. I have a fair amount of reloading data for that rifle with Norma MRP and 125 to 140 gr bullets, especially the 130 gr Berger.
Anybody else tried MRP in the 6.5 PRC?...

58.5 H 1000/Rem 9.5 or CCI BR-2 and either the 130 Accubond or Scirocco for 3100 FPS and .5 MOA are my two favorite loads.
