No likely to find an original, but you might. Best bet would be a modern 700 bbl, or a custom, maybe.

I have a 725 SA, originally .244, that I had to rebarrel. A 700TI in .260 screwed right on, no headspacing adjustment required - unless one objects to having the stamping in the bottom of the barrel channel. I don't.

Shoots well.

Good luck.

Thanks Ias. I have no objection to the stamping being on the bottom...my smith can mark it for me. I am more concerned about the caliber, as I had looked forward to the Bob. Good to know there are options. Thans again.

eBay, there are 4 or 5 722 barrels of various calibers listed now and another 4 or 5 barrels have recently sold, no 257 Roberts, but one will eventually show up.

One would suspect that if you wanted a vintage barrel for your 722, the internet sites or forums probably might be it for a source. A few parts places as per Kansas etc might have barrels as well.

As I recall, the 722 has a sight hump, kinda like the pre64 model 70 barrel. If you want that feature, most barrel blank makers offer contouring services for a nominal fee.............if the contour is already in their banks, then no charge. You might peruse Lilja's site, as he lists a lot of factory barrels, and I suspect tis just the tip of ice berg.............I see the 721 contour, he might have the 722 if it is different, I do not know; but an email or call would tell.

If you just wanna replace the barrel, then the hunt oughta become easier.................just select the closest barrel blank and have the guy put it on. Smiths really do not like to contour straight blanks to speciality contours because of the labor and time at the machine. That can vary if the price is right, say ala an integral rib etc etc.

One might surmise that a 700 barrel would screw in. The timing of the lettering sights(headspace too sometimes) would have to be adjusted most times............and no hump, just a tapered barrel. Finding 700 barrels in 25 cal can be difficult, kinda like 222 or 223, but one might consider a 700 takeoff.

One might bang the costs of preowned barrel and its nuiances, versus a new blank. Sometimes the cost is not much different; both have their appeal.

I picked up the gun in a local shop. I could not chamber a round. Smith made chamber cast and surmises that someone tried to convert it to a 250 Savage or 250 AI but botched it. It is a non-caliber now....got a mess on my hands

PacNor probably has the contour you want. Send it to them or purchase the contoured blank and have your Smith install it. As suggested above, Shaw, Shilen, etc. may all be able to do the same.

Rem 700 barrels fit fine. My 722 is now fitted with 22-250 barrel from a Rem LVSF, head space was close, it will chamber factory ammo snugly but I had to thin a shell holder for reloads. I did fit a heavy varmint Barrel to it and just thinned a recoil lug a little to get the proper headspace, it didn't take very much. Mine is set up in a Rem 700 stock and I can switch the barrels back and forth, 300 Sav, 22-250 Coyote calling rig and 22-250 Varmint gun.

You can get "Remage" barrels pre-chambered and you set the headspace with a barrel nut like Savage, a number of barrel makes offer them.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Have it set up as a remage and that barrel can probably be salvaged by setting back a couple threads and rechambering.
