My Remington 7615 (a pump action 5.56 that takes standard magazines, has a mid barrel notch sight that is a bit hard for me to see.

Is there any replacement for the notch and/or ramp that would fit without machining?

Thank you

Put a Wilson or XS ghost ring on the rear of the receiver if you aren’t using a scope. Huge improvement over the factory rear.

Some Remington 7615's come with the rear Wilson ghost ring

Mine is not drilled and tapped to accept a rear sight above the trigger

Bummer. XS makes an express rear blade to use with their big dot. It may give up some precision but it’ll be easier to see. Or Williams makes an old style receiver sight that will mount using your rear scope screw holes.

I would look at European made sights. Not sure where you would get them. A "battue" sight is mounted somewhat forward on the barrel and used for driven boar where the shooting appears at times fast and furious. You can see them at the Browning Europe website on the Browning auto, straight pull, etc. You can see them in this video on a Sauer (start at 25 second mark.)

Also some nice open rifle sights at (https://www.sauer.de/en/products/bolt-action-rifles/s-101/sauer-forest/technology.html) in the photo of the 101 Forest model. I have seen them on other European rifles also. These appear to be quite quick to use. Some have a long ramp and some don't. At the Recknagal (https://www.recknagel.de/Joomla/sights.html?lang=en) main website page you will see some. They have colors drawing the eye and vision to line up, similar to the function of the triangle or 3 dots on many modern semiauto pistols.

The other option is a receiver sight if you don't use a scope.

I live in eastern Europe. I have Recknagel open rear sights on a couple of my rifles. They are the fastest open sight I have used. Unfortunately, they only come with a 16mm dovetail. I cuy the dovetail down to fit the standard 3/8" dovetail on my American rifles. The rest of my iron sighted rifles have XS ghost ring rear sights. I prefer a white bead front sight on all of them.
