Realistically, though, while we have lots of wolves, you don't just walk out and shoot one. They're scattered over some very big country and they sure aren't as plentiful as deer. Most are shot while hunting something else. Very few guys go specifically wolf hunting. I've hunted a lot north of Sun Valley. There's a pack that's been in the area for years. I've seen their tracks many times but I've only seen the wolves once in the last 5 years. Last year I crossed the tracks of 5 of them, less than 2 hours behind them, possibly a lot less. I know that because they were in snow that had quit less than 2 hrs before I was there and the tracks hadn't been snowed in. Resident tags are only $11 so I always have one in my wallet. Depending on where you are, seasons run 8 or 11 months of the year.
