a week after I got my first one found another one 515xxx sr# 300sav with the silth ? scope mt 4pw weaver? scope. is 49 the write year and what mod?paid 450.00 with alum case 4 boxes shells

The lever boss has a small letter stamped on it along with inspector numbers - what letter is it ?

The part of the receiver under the action where the lever is attached.
According to the manufacturing/production serial numbers I have you are probably right in believing the rifle was produced in 1949.

Based on the serial # and the star, or asterisk, boss code, I would say manufactured in late 1948. If made in 1949 it would have had an A boss code.

a web site I checked said 49 I don't know much about them I got my first one 2 weeks found out it was made in 1977 ago thank all of you all for any info on them

The asterisk * or star is 1947 or 1948. The best data I have for 1948 production is serial #'s between 504,xxx to 520,790 so your rifle is firmly in the 1948 data with the * confirming 1948.
