Are most folks happy with the newer CDL's? I saw one forum member posted some really nice pics with a CDL in 25-06 and seemed to be very happy with it. I think they are a beautiful rifle. My parents gave me nice gift for a promotion I got at work and pretty much said just get something that you will have forever. I thought about a 17 hornet........just don't need one, thought about a 700 long range in 25-06.......don't really need it. When I got my Vanguard S2 I kinda always wished I woulda got a 700 CDL in 25-06 even though it is a great rifle. I think I am going to pull the trigger on the CDL, any and all opinions are appreciated.

I've had the CDL 25.06 since they first came out and I couldn't be happier with it. The CDL is a beautiful rifle no matter what it's chambered in but I may be a little bias because I love wood stocks. As for the 25.06 it's with out a doubt my favorite caliber and I've been shooting one for around 30yrs. It's a fast flat shooting accurate caliber with mild recoil that hits the target hard, what's there not to like? I'm sure you would never regret buying the CDL and the 25.06 chambering is just icing on the cake. smile

Thanks for the replies. 25-06 is one of my favorite cartridges as well, I love wood stocks. After the transfer it will be about 850 out the door.

You will love it. I have had one each (30-06, 25-06) and I have a CDL stock I put on my 35 Whelen Ackley to swap out with its synthetic.

My 25-06 700 CDL with the 6x Leupold has been a terrific rifle for mule deer, pronghorn and coyotes!

[Linked Image]

I bought it in about 2004/2005. Have taken quite a few mule deer with it. Liked the rifle so much that I got another 700 CDL in 30-06 a few years later, and it too has been an excellent hunting rifle. They look good, handle well, mine are both accurate & reliable. Ya, I'd say get that 700 CDL and enjoy!

There it is! That was one of the pics I was originally talking about. Great pics. What bullets are you shooting? I have Speer Hotcor 100grn, Sierra gameking 100's, Nosler ballistic tips in 85 and 115's. Any change of impact with the bipod on the rifle? Thanks.

In recent years I've been loading the 115 gr Nosler Ballistic tip to about 3150 fps via Retumbo. Good accuracy. Good performance on game. That 2018 photo was a one-shot kill at about 355 yards.

Often I don't use the bipod, but a couple of injuries in recent years have had me relying more on it for stability, particularly when I hunt Wyoming where the shots may be longer.

I have not seen any change in point of impact, bipod, or just resting the rifle across my pack. However I did have both of my CDL's pillar bedded and free floated. The triggers are both set at 3# as well. They've been really nice hunting rifles!

Here's one in Washington, 2017, fired from sitting, no bipod. 212 yards. Same ammo.

I hope your 700 CDL works as well as mine has. I haven't used it exclusively, but I've used it an awful lot over the past 15 years.

My only complaint about the CDL is that it is nice enough as is, it doesn't need anything except for a new trigger. Mine is in 243 and it has come close to being a donor but every time I pick it up I say no way. One in 25-06 would be about as good as it gets for hunting around here. Only if Elk or Nilgai were a staple would I want something more. Plenty of each have been taken with the 25-06 so it is not off limits even for larger game.

I've been well pleased by the 2 I've owned. That stock is about as close as one can get to the Mountain Rifle stock, which is my favorite.

If it handles well for you, go for it.

I've been a big fan of the .25-06 for 40 years now. I bought mine in 1978, a VS with a stock like the BDL. Been a great rifle and has done a lot of hunting over the years.

A friend recently bought one in CDL and I lust for one of those.

Only 25-06 I have at the moment is a pump. I'm gonna try some 115 NBts in that this summer and see how it does on deer during crop damage season
