Let's see if we can get this section back on track.

I finished my 6x45mm build this afternoon, by mounting a 4-12 scope on it. It's a stainless steel Shilen barrel, Boyd's AT-One stock - both purchased before the CDN dollar echange rate sank. It is at approximately 1.30 right now.

This is the second 6x45mm in three years. The other is a bolt action, Shilen barrel with a Choate Varmint stock. The colour of the stock is applejack, but it seems the flash has bleached some of the colour out of it. When it warms up, I'll take it out to the range.

And this is its cousin, chambered in 225 Win. It's an MGM barrel, 4-12x40mm Nikon scope, and a Boyd's AT-One stock.

And the cartridges.

I have 3 6x45

A Cooper

A custom Sako walnut blued shilen barrel by Gary Flach.

A custom Sako stainless Benchmark barrel, Banser stock by BigJ.

My only .225 Winchester is a Ruger 1B by Bill Leeper.

I've owned a number of Savage 340 225's and a couple of Cooey 71's

Cool cartridges

They are cool, aren't they? I haven't fired this particular 225 yet. I had a 340 in 225 Win when I was a teenager, but sold it years ago. I hope that my build shoots better than that old Savage. I got that 340 used. It was an old, beat up rifle with a pitted barrel and rust on the outside. The bore was okay, as I recall. I have a fresh batch of home made 224 bullets to feed it.

Do you get to use either very much?

Some of us are suffering from cabin fever. The weather has been cold and very windy. I'm not going to the range until the wind dies down. I don't care about the bullets being moved around. It's too damned breezy to be sitting around without moving!

I made 500 66 grain bullets this afternoon to use in the 225. The barrel is a 1 in 9 twist, so it should be able to handle up to about 75/80 gr. bullets. I am more concerned with it being able to handle the longer Barnes bullets though. This is the 66 grainer beside the 52s I use in my 222s.

Sad part is I don't use any of them as much as I'd like.

Too many guns LOL, I reduce then they seem to creep back into the safes.

Miserably cold here in West, Cabin fever big time.

I keep saying that I will scale back, but it's difficult to do. There are a lot of memories attached to some of them. It's difficult to make the choices.

Hey Steve, Bill here, again! I used a 6x45 in a Remington pump on coyotes for a yr., worked great!!! Then went on to other experiences, Budy I bought it off of bought it back, still has it. We have a circle of sorts? We try to keep the neat guns in our circle so that they stay in the group & if you want to sell a cool gun, it has to be offered up to the guys in the circle first. Can get expensive but this way you can buy it back & not loose track of them. Used 55-58gr for coyotes. Loaded up some 85x Barnes in it for deer but they didn't co-operate!!! Had them at about 2700 to 2800 if I remember rt. Any way just a for your information reply, I think you'll enjoy it. I'm out Bill🐾👣🐾

It's a handy calibre to have. Another avenue for people that are looking for a dual purpose cartridge. I built the second one so I could carry it around for coyotes or deer. The first is a hvyweight. About 14 lbs.

Thanks. I've been making open tip and expanding bullets for probably 15 yrs in a number of calibrews. It keeps me in bullets when things dry up in Canada.

Hornady stopped making the 25 gr. HP, and I just bought some Barnes 25 gr. HPs. $80 for a box of 200. And I thought the Hornadys were expensive at $28/100. I was thinking of buying a set of 172 bullet dies, but the price of the dies/core mold that I need is $1300 CDN+ $650 CDN for J4 6000 jackets & taxes & delivery. Probably about $2400 CDN all in. Pricy.

The pix are still there. Correction: Go to Talk to Webmaster. I believe there are some solutions for Firefox users, Explorer users, etc. to enable being able to see anyone's pix.

I loaded 50 225 Win cartridges this afternoon with 66 grain open tip bullets. 10 cartridges with 5 different powders. When things warm up here next week, I'll try them out at the range.

If there are any Canadians that know of a place that is selling processed IVI 5.56 x45mm brass, could you post it here please? Most of the regular places list it, but it is sold out. I would like to lay in 1,000 processed, once fired cases.

The 14 lber is not the carry rifle. It's one that I put into a Choate Varmint stock. The second one I built using the Boyd AT One stock is 8 lb. The AT One stock weighs about 40 oz.
