Thanks for the info guys. Looks like I will give it a go and report back on the results. Now the question is what barrel maker to use. Ive always had a soft spot for Hart as they are always so nice on the phone but a friend has me convinced that I need to look at Bartline or Kreiger.

What says the masses?

Most any top notch barrel and a GOOD smith and correct chamber job should make you happy. Convey what bullets you are most interested in shooting and the most desired setting depth.

Those are fine, but so are Lilja, Brux, Shilen etc.. Last one I did with a Lilja the customer said he simply could NOT find a hint of copper in the bore between cleanings; said it was literally the smoothest barrel he's ever had.. Just did a second one for him about 3 weeks ago and he's due in this week with another project so I will ask him how the newest one's doing..

A guy who has cut a lot of chambers told me that barrels are like people, in that every one is different and you can't tell what a barrel is going to do until you shoot it.

I think that it is pretty hard to find a bad barrel and that there is a little luck involved in finding a great barrel.

I have a few barrels from Douglas, Green Mountain, Hart, Shaw, Shilen, and Lothar Walther that I am satisfied with.

I have a 6.5-06 on a Ruger long action. 24" E.R.Shaw stainless 1/8 twist. . Cost about $400 installed. I have several Shaw barrels & all give exceptional accuracy. My 6.5 -06 with the Barnes 120gr TSX at 3277fps takes elk cleanly & gives complete penetration. I have shot this load on my own range to 400yds. Performs perfectly.

I shoot Smooched 147's at 2900fps in a Hart 24" 260AI in formed Alpha cases,on a S/A 700,fed ala binderless AICS footprint magazines(AM). No thang to throat in accordance and connect dots. MUCH prefer it to my 700 based 6.5-06,but prefer the 264 Kreedmire to both.
