I have an opportunity to buy a 20 year old Rem model 7, Lightweight SS, in 260rem. Never been hunted, sighted in, then put in safe. Been sitting in the safe for 20 years. Rifle + scope weigh in at 7lbs. Leopold 3*9 scope. I haven't seen it yet and don't have any details on the scope. What would be a fair price for the combo? How about for the rifle only? Thanks.

Stocks suck ass and Sevens are always a feed/function concession,as compared to a 700. Scope sucks too and likely it's mounting system to boot.

An easy pass,from any/all angles.

Hint................

I had one just like the one you describe. It was a very good shooter, like most Model Sevens. It was also a 260. Don't ask why I sold it, I don't have a good answer.

In general, a gun shop won't give you extra money for a scope on a rifle. To answer your question, I would look on the internet for asking prices on sites like Gunbroker. Just remember those prices are usually astronomically high. As a guideline, gun shop is going to give a seller about 50% of the selling price of a new rifle. On the Remington site, they list a new Model Seven stainless at $837.67.

A lot depends on how much you want the piece. I would pay $500 for such a rifle, and another $150 for the scope. That's just me. I'm fond of Model Sevens.

Hint.....despite what the dimwits say, that's a very nice rifle, made in a time when every Remington rifle was a good one. Buy it if you can.

Scope is a Vari-x. 3-9x33 Compact, Leupold. S&K bases and rings.

Rifle $600. Add another $100 for the scope.

Pic looks mint.

That's a great buy , I have a 1997 SS M7 260 & a 1993 308 , both function perfect and accurate and have better factory triggers than 90% of the 700's I had/handled .
I paid $700 for my 260 right here on the Fire' several years ago - it shoots 100gr. amax to 140gr. accubonds like a champ . They are a little butt heavy but for sneaking through the thick stuff or from a treestand - they're great .
Like James said the older M7's were well made .

Can't comment on the price, but the seven is very sought after rifle in my part of the country. In a 260, would buy it.

Hint, regardless of what some folks think, it is a good rifle. I found one for my neighbor's young son and in 260. Ain't failed him yet.
Remember, some people can shoot!
