Trying to put together a spring black bear hunt, I was leaning hard on northern Idaho but man I really don’t want to drive 18 hrs.I have started researching some spots in Wyoming and unit 19 (near Pinedale and Boulder) is a non baiting unit that interest me that’s not a 2 day drive. I spoke to the area game warden and he said it doesn’t get hit as hard as 13 (which allows baiting) but the terrain isn’t super conducive to black bear habitat. But that he thought there were some good bears in there because of the no baiting reg. There’s tons of hiking trails all through the unit. Anyway if anyone here has spent some time in that area I’d sure like to pick your brain a bit.

Not sure where you got the "no baiting" info. HA 19 has baiting outside designated wilderness. The only major difference in regards to baiting between 19 and units in the Wyoming Range is that "unprocessed bait" must be used in 19. A reminder, non residents must have a "resident guide" or hire an outfitter to hunt designated wilderness. There's decent bear numbers and bears in the area, I don't think a lot are taken spot and stalk in the spring partly due to effort and partly due to conditions/terrain. If you want more on specifics shoot me a pm.
