Hmmm. Amongst the untold tables of beef jerky, peanut brittle, eye glasses cleaners and endless other crap I actually found the one gun that gave credit to calling it a gun show. And then I went home.

I painted a wall today. And then I went home.

When bears fly. And then I went home.

No pickles! And then I went home.

See how easy that is?

I gave 5 out of my 6 Savages to a friend for safe keeping, in his safe, while we make the transition from WA state to MT. (He collected a total of 24 from me. My son has the rest of my boomsticks. A friend in Lakeside will get a few more in his safe)
I kept one 22hp *cut down to 19"* just to have something to fondle while we wait for our house to be built in Lakeside, MT overlooking flathead lake.

Both my safes are now empty and in storage (and most furniture) in MT.

We'll be camp ground hosts in our 5th wheel for the summer at a MT State campground from April 29th through Oct.
Come visit us!

Legislation is inching through our legislature to put us on par with CA and NY. Hearings are scheduled for next Monday, known to we Maryland shooters as "Gun Day". Since I work literally across the street from the State House, I shall be there adding my voice to the crowds of protestors we hope to see. I hope to get over there early enough to sign up for my "three minutes of fame"- the time allotted for people off the street to testify for/against pending legislation.

The last time this happened, in 2013, we had over 5000 MD citizens clogging the public spaces around the State House voicing our opposition to the draconian handgun laws we are now saddled with. There's hope to double that number this time. We won't give up the ship, but it's a leaky vessel.

Without boring you, in a nutshell AR's will be banned- no exemptions, no exceptions, period. Destroy them or turn them in by 10/1/2019.* Private sale of any long gun of any type will be forbidden unless done under the auspices of an FFL or the State Police, with background checks and waiting periods, etc. In order to purchase a long gun of any type one will have to possess a "Long gun Qualification License" (LQL), which will be issued by (guess who) the State and entail extensive classroom "training", background investigation, healthy fees, fingerprinting, and final "ok" by the State Police. One long gun per month, per citizen.

Those measures pretty well describe the rigamarole we have to go through to buy a pistol since 2013. Now they want to extend it to long guns too. I'm hearing a lot of talk regarding non-compliance. I guess a lot of us will become felons with the stroke of a pen....

*Since 2013 only H-Bar AR's with a minimum 29.5" OAL are legal to sell here. Not that big of a deal. Mine's a 20" HBAR well over the minimum length. Non-compliant AR's that existed in citizen's hands made before that date were at least grandfathered in. No more if the rat bastids have their way.

Six years ago they said "we don't want to come after your duck and deer guns, we just want to make the streets of Baltimore safe again." Well, they lied, and we won't take it lying down.

Good luck in your fight. Seems like alot of states are going "way Left". I got rid of my AR's after they said they had to be modified with those ridiculous stocks minus the pistol grip.

Lots of luck. If they pass it it's time retire and move out of the peoples republic of maryland.
On a lighter note here is the sign outside the mancave door and signs on each side. My helper said he'd be here tomorrow at nine to start the ceiling. I'd better get a pic of the inside before we start. It's nothing but studs and insulation now.

I didn’t know you were out here. I’m in Sacramento so no snow but the elevation of the American River is higher than the adjacent community of Natomas. And I’m not far from that. I’ll let you know if the Garden Hwy levee blows out. That could put them about 15-feet under. But that likely won’t happen. You guys must have got dusted good with the snowfall having dropped down to 1000-feet in the Sierra.

"The Old Line State". Ah, yes. From when the ranks of the Continental Army were crumbling in the face of a British onslaught and George Washington rallied the troops by pointing out that The Maryland Line (infantry battalions from here) was standing fast. We were some of the prized troops who helped win the fight for independence. If they saw what was happening now they would weep.

As for moving to another state, part of me wants to but my life is here- all of my friends I hold dear, not to mention the job I need to survive on. Social Security and a small pension just doesn't cut it otherwise. Besides, I'm 66 years old and starting over from scratch all over yet again is not appealing.

I understand. I got a belly full and California and most of the people there that I came in contact with and so I left. There was an attitude there that I finally refused to abide anymore. The gun thing was just a part of it. I hauled trailers with vintage vehicles for most of my movie jobs. In the PRC if you rearend someone it's your fault no matter what the circumstances. A trip to LA to work on a movie was good for about 4 or 5 people passing me, pulling in just missing my front bumper and stepping on their brakes. They didn't actually slow much they were just harassing the guy who had the audacity to drive a 45' rig on THEIR freeway. I don't miss it even though I knew some good people there.

On a lighter note (but still a head smacker), today we had a lab assistant (20 year old sophomore girl) report back from a biology class lab with a question regarding disposal of left over samples. The samples in question are little tiny worms, completely harmless, and so small they can only be viewed under a microscope. When she was told "yeah, we'll either just throw them in the trash or run them and their Petri dishes through the sterilizer" she freaked right the heck out. Literally cried over the fate of the worms, and demanded that we respect their lives. I kid you not. I told her I would safely return them to the environment. As soon as she left I dumped them down the sink and ran some hot water. Some amoeba down in the sewer is having a feast right now.

I hope I don't run into her anytime soon.

Moved all of the carpet from the living room, family room, and hall way into big contractor trash bags, then down to the road for the trash man. Then went home to a plywood floor. Damn that carpet helped keep the house warm, and the bare floor is loud. If the dog drops her bone on the floor it sounds like a gun go off!

I broke the inside door handle off one of the work trucks yesterday. Now I get to roll the window down and reach outside to open the truck, like a bonafide redneck. Then I went home and found another work truck to have a 1/2" of water soaked carpet and mold growing inside.

And people wonder why contractors charge so much.

Shovel an inch or two of that potting soil onto your floorboards. Start cultivating lettuce in it and have a ready source for lunch every day. It won't matter then if your boots are muddy or if water gets in. You're welcome.

I'm just wondering how the hell I'm going to dry it out and seal it up since it's raining every day and truck won't fit in garage. I guess take it to a body shop.

paying for those therapy sessions?
i always allotted 15 percent of any bid for repairs needed by employee's stupidity. worked out pretty close at year's end.

had one employee hit a kid with my truck, 375k insurance payout with immediate cancellation . welfare mom and dad thought they hit the lottery.
and then i went home grin

Or take it on a vacation to milder climes. Drive down to Yreka, I'm sure its freezing there. You could leave the windows open all night and chip the ice out the next morning. Besides, Yreka is one of my favorites mountain towns. Here's a little local history as told by Wikipedia:

"On July 28, 1935 Clyde Johnson and Robert Miller Barr robbed a local business and its patrons in Castella, California. The pair then stole a car from a patron and drove north to Dunsmuir, California, where they planned to abandon the automobile and make a getaway by train. Soon after they abandoned the car north of Dunsmuir, the pair was stopped by California Highway Patrolman George “Molly” Malone and Dunsmuir titular Chief of Police, 38-year-old Frank R. "Jack" Daw. Johnson pulled out a Luger pistol and wounded both policemen. Malone recovered, but Daw died the next day. Clyde Johnson was caught a few hours later by a dragnet and was taken into custody. Barr, who was holding the $35 that they got from the robbery, panicked during the shootout and ran off into the woods, then escaped on a freight train. Jack Daw was a beloved figure in Dunsmuir. His title of Chief of Police was honorary, given to him because of his cool head and experience as a World War I veteran. The night of Daw's funeral a dozen cars from Dunsmuir, carrying approximately 50 masked men, drove north to Yreka to lynch Johnson. On August 3, 1935 at 1:30am, the vigilante mob reached the Yreka jail and lightly knocked on the door. Deputy Marin Lange, the only guard on duty at the jail, opened the door slightly and was quickly overtaken. He was driven nine miles east of Yreka where he was released, barefoot. The mob proceeded to search the jail, found Johnson, drove him away in one of the cars and hanged him from a pine tree. Barr was arrested over a year later, on September 4, 1936, in Los Angeles on a burglary charge. During his time on the lam, he got a part as an extra in the Nelson Eddy/Jeanette MacDonald film, Rose Marie, scenes of which were filmed near Lake Tahoe. He is credited in the film under his real name."

Dunsmuir on the Upper Sacramento River is a nice little town too.

Before I forget. And then I went home.

Mine's really upscale. The floor is OSB. but then it's on the second floor. I guess I could throw some dirt on it. The other guys finished the ceiling today and went home. My wife would frown on putting guns and hunting stuff in the living room but the caribou mount is OK. I told her I'm decorating it. No little stained glass pieces dangling in the windows and no cute little critters scattered on all the horizontal surfaces. The only critters are going to be stuffed wild game heads including the caribou and a copy of Frederick Remington's rattlesnake.

Showed up to start a small 5 day project and after talking with the homeowner she added an 80' recirculating water feature, a stamped concrete patio, raised concrete seating, gas outdoor firepit, trellis/gazebo/outdoor swing, on and on it goes. And then I came home.

I forgot to mention, then the horse and cowboy went home. And cleaned the fecal material off the saddle.
Roy, it'll have to be a wine rack for box wine. I'm a wino.

We agreed on something like $30K-40K, and then I went home.

I was home yesterday, it snowed, I went to the store, and then I went home.

(But while home on a snow day I loaded 100 rounds of .30-06 cast target ammo for my 1903A1 Sniper, and 50 rounds of .310 Cadet so I can let Joe shoot the Martini.)

I took the door stop off the floor molding so the guys could install the new hardwood floor tomorrow. Then the wind grabbed the door and threw it open, and the door knob poked a hole in the wall. So, I spackled the hole, let it dry, painted it. Then walked outside to look at the snow, turned back around, and went home.

There's another 80K left in the old girl. Take care of her and she'll get you home.

Those old 12 valve Cummins Dodges will go a million miles. But by then you'd be rollin on an apple crate and four tires.

Back in the 30s my grandfather took a stationary thrashing machine and mounted it on a flat bed truck. In those days farmers would cut their crops and stack them in the barn. My grandfather would take his machine around to various farms in his part of the Sacramento Valley and do custom thrashing. He could set it for different crops. I have one picture of that mobile thrasher and it does look like an apple crate and four tires. Not much money in those days and not a lot of farmers got rich. And guys like my grandfather who serviced the farmers made a living as long as they had a couple other things going on as well. My dad carried on the tradition and kept John Deere rice combines going for years. And then he went home but that was at age 74.

My gramps was a Ford mechanic at a small Ford dealership in rural Pennsylvania from circa 1920 to 1956. He serviced a sh*t-ton of Fordson and 8N/9N Red Belly tractors for the farmers in that neck of the woods (as well as the Model-T's, A's, flat head V-8's, and trucks from all around that corner of Paradise). Due to his service in that regard he was issued better gas and tire ration coupons during The War than were issued to the local doctors. My Dad fondly remembered them driving hither and yon on family outings when all their friends and relatives were stuck at home because they didn't have the gasoline to do it with. The gov't knew to keep the farm tractors serviced (done on site) or the country wouldn't eat.

I have all of his Ford service manuals from his career. Dog eared, frayed, and grease smeared like you wouldn't believe.

Christmas Eve, 1944- the Boss gave everyone their Christmas bonus in the form of silver dollars, and then he went home with his pants pockets bulging with coins. (I have a couple of those selfsame silver dollars from that day, and I keep them at home.)

Yesterday the guys came and installed hardwood floors and it looked great. Then they went home. Last night my wife and son were putting the family room back to get her and found a “oopsie”. My son said “where is the plug for the floor lamp.” When we built the room we put a plug in the floor for a power strip that runs the floor lamp, small ceramic heater and the chargers for my wife’s electronics. They put the new floor over it.

Today the had to come back and fix it. Looks great again. Then they went home, again.

It’s always good when the “and then they went home” stories have good endings. And now I’m not going to say “and then they went home” because I already did.

They shouldn't have floored over it in the first place. That kind of crap is why I do as much of my own construction my self as I can. And then I go home.

I do my own construction as well. I don't need some pack of yo-yo's covering over my outlets, I can do that w/o any help at all!

Installed new after market steps for the 5th wheel. This makes getting in and out easier and no bounce on the RV.
Considering we're going to be full timers for at least 9 months, the money is worth it.

We finished the T&G on the walls and went home. Today we'll peel the logs for the false beams and get them up and then go home hopefully, the snow is drifting real bad here.

Yeah, that schit is supposed to hit us this afternoon. And the rivers are already higher than the levees. During storms like these all I can say is "keep sucking it up San Francisco" as the bay and Pacific Ocean is where all our water goes.

Had my two minutes of fame testifying in the Maryland Senate against proposed long gun legislation. (Huge waiting lines to get in,made up of around 100 pro-gunners to every anti. Everybody got two minutes to state their case.) Started 10AM still going after 8PM when I left.) Bloody sponsors of the bill spent their time yawning, doodling on their laptops, and taking long coffee breaks. They couldn't be bothered to hear opposition to their fantasies. Long day. Tired, and proud to be an American.

News 13 reporter and camera man prowled around doing sound bites. They had to look long and hard to find anti's to interview, but guess who got the bear's share of face time on TV? Rotten SOB's, the older I get the less I watch the news anymore.

A delegation of county sheriffs from around the state fired up the crowd by stating "we too won't comply with the new laws if passed". (Your Frederick Co. sheriff was one of them, Joe.)

And then I dragged my bedraggled self home. I could use a beer.
