I looking to get some sort of neoprene cover or something similar to protect my new Zeiss V6 3-18x50. I have seen these covers which I believe they call "scope coats". I plan on getting some Zeiss lens covers specifically for my V6 glass, but for the optic itself, what do you guys recommend?

Fantastic. I didn't really know if that was the correct name or not. Doug, which one would I need for my Zeiss V6 3-18x50 with the exposed turrets? They sit a little higher than the capped turrets.

I think that the Chinese knock-offs are as good as any 3mm thick ScopeCoat brand neoprene scope cover that I've owned when it comes to keeping dust off a scope.

IMO when you buy the ScopeCoat brand, you're paying a premium for the brand name and only a small fraction of the price for the product. Granted, the "real" ScopeCoats come in many sizes and material thicknesses, but the Chinese units appears to be sized to fit the common 3-9x40, making them a little loose on 2-7x33s and smaller and a little tight on 4-16x42AOs and larger.

If you do a search for "neoprene scope cover" on eBay, you'll find them priced under $3.

That said, the Chinese neoprene scope covers would probably be a poor fit on a scope with a 50mm object, so you'd probably be better off to go buy a "real" ScopeCoat.

I've tried them all.
.
The Scope Shield is now my go to.

The cheapie Chinese ones are OK if they do not see a lot of use, like in a gun safe.

Scope Shields are the ones to use!!! They do not get lost once the shield is taken off. For best fit, the customer service person at Scope Shield told me to order one size smaller than I needed. Exact size if turrets or 50mm+ front objective.

I recommend something like Leupold hinged scope lens covers. Leupold makes some out of metal. Don't get those cheap ass plastic ones, they don't hold up. I had some of the Butler Creek Cheap ass BS covers, and had some on each rifle. But they don't hold up for crap. They break off at the hinge. Get the Leupold Almumna. They cost like $60.00 but are well worth it, especially for a scope like you have. Anything Zeiss deserves the best.

As for the whole scope body, a Zeiss is going to hold up just fine. That's why they cost so much because every aspect of anything Zeiss is pure quality and is made to hold up. I wouldn't cover up that beautiful scope other than the lens. I'd want to show that babe off.

^^^ this, both work well but I prefer the features of the Scopeshield. I have a SS 3-9 w/ big turrets and it fits perfectly. I like to carry my rifle w/ the cover in place and the flip off/ retainable design of the Scope Shield works best for me.

I have a scopecoat coming in from Doug. The only thing that I see different from coat to shield is the loop around the barrel and the loop at the end. For my type of hunting, I will never have to pull it off in a hurry to make a shot thus worrying about it falling on ground, water or anything else. I needed something for my Ranger ride to stand so it doesn't get dusty and muddy. Well see, if indeed the loop is nice, I'll have the wife sew one on it.

I actually have those coming. they screw into the optic. Getting to my property is the issue. My Ranger ride can get real dusty and real muddy. The neoprene cover is just to keep the optic "clean and scratch" free.

That's all that I use neoprene scope covers for, to keep dust/dirt off the lenses while they are in the rack and during transport. Once the rifle or shotgun is loaded, the scope cover comes off and goes into a pocket or gun case. I have vertical storage racks, so without the scope covers, the uncovered objective lenses are a flat place where dust can/will settle. With them, there isn't any dust to brush or blow off when the rifle or shotgun is going to leave the vault to go afield or to the range.

When I hunt in rain or snow, I cover the lenses with an old set of Weaver see through covers. They aren't great, but they do the job when called upon.

Check out the Snapshot Cover from www.hornhunterpacks.com They have a hybrid cover that combines the best of the heavy duty neoprene cover and it is held on the scope by itself.

The RYO cover works pretty well for a larger scope, or a scope with larger turrets.
