I have the older HD-R's in 10x and have been very happy with them, but if you like 8's I'd stick with that power...

Assuming you’re hunting with a rifle, if you need a rangefinder, it’s because targets are at extended ranges. For glassing at extended ranges I prefer 10x.
My main binocular is an Ultravid HD+ 8x42mm.
My rangefinding binocular is a Geovid HD-B 3000.

True, but I’m not going to shoot at game past 500. So then would the 8x work fine in that case. Better fov , less eye strain , less shake are positives of 8’s.

I have the 8x HD-B. I’ve never tried the 10x so not a comparison, but one thing I can comment on is that I find it hard to range objects unless I can support the bino against something. The ranging button is stiff compared to other range finders I’ve used and causes me to wobble while I’m pressing it. I’m not sure if anyone else has this isuue or not, but the 2x extra magnification might not help that issue for me.

I have had the 8's for 2 years, love them. I use them a lot as I shoot p-dogs thousands of rds. a year. I have shaky hands. I can't hold 10's steady enough. My buddy has the Zeiss's in 10's. They work well for him. They use the same battery. We both like the leica's better but he can hold 10's.
