Picked up a Beeman Sportsman 22 cal break barrel, at the pawn shop yesterday. It's Been used but everything worked. Is there any maintenance I can do? Though about tearing it down, but I couldn't find anything for specs or cleaning on their web site.

Don't tear down a spring piston gun without the proper spring compression device. It can maim with the pressure of that mainspring. Rusty

Just wipe down the exterior with an oily cloth (Rem Oil etc.). You can buy chamber oil and spring oil but they take so little (like one drop every couple thousand shots) that its hardly worth messing with. Now keep an eye out for one of the R series Beemans - those are where things get very nice.

SPORTSMAN RS2 Think I got one. just a little used. I didn't think 100.00 bucks was to bad.

Be careful and don't leave oil in the barrel or let it get in the compression chamber. Excess oil can ignite from the pressure, just like a diesel engine, and do damage to your rifle.

The RS series is the Chinese versions. They sell new for $150 with a scope and mounts (usually nothing special) https://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Beeman_RS2_Dual_Caliber_Air_Rifle_Combo/1334 Too bad they use similar names, it makes it confusing. The German versions are a very nice step up from the Chinese versions. (Think R1 R9 R7) but they are also expensive $3-400+.

Enjoy the new rifle, if you find that it's something that you shoot often then you may want to upgrade. If it gets shot a few time per year, then that one should be just fine.

The household .177 R9 has list of one shot kills on everything from squirrels to crows to coons, possums and a woodchuck. And a springer is a great learning tool for follow through.

Have never regretted spending the money on my R9.
