I have a good bit of experience with the 25-06 and 257 Weatherby, and think the 257 WSM would be a good practical hunting cartridge. One thing that I noticed in my 257 Weatherby was the 115 Ballistic Tip shot flatter and resisted wind better than it's paper ballistics would indicate.
The same observation about Ballistic Tips in 25 Caliber was made by John Barsness and confirmed by Bob Oehler. Steve Tims told me by that he had experienced the same thing.
I think if I were going to build a 257 WSM,I would get a fast twist barrel as others have suggested,it would allow the use of some of the new heavy vld bullets and would not hurt the performance of traditional 25 caliber bullets.

NO bullet shoots "flatter" or drifts wind "better" than it's actual BC and Nuzzler has looonnngggggggggg "enjoyed" inflated BC values,to start with. Which is of course why the corrected(Litz) BC of the .257" 115 BT,is softer than advertised. HINT. Congratulations?!? Never been difficult to cypher, who shoots and who don't. Hint...............

Had one in an 8400. It’s in Wasilla now. He won’t sell it back.
Stupid.

BS have you tried the 131 BJ in any of your 25-284's? Have had 'em on order for a spell...with no joy. I am of course more than a "touch" dubious,of putting all of my eggs in one basket and especially with Sierra at the helm.(grin) None of my 25-284's have the rotational velocity requisite. I look for The Trick Pony to dry up and Sugar to abandon the support, were I forced to speculate. Hint...............

Stupid. Built (5) 257 Wby's and of course Bob,Better Bob,25-284's,25-06 and 25-06AI. Pass the 224 Kreedmire and 88's at 3250fps,outta a 22" spout and hold the Fluff. Hint...............(grin)

Stick, I like shooting running targets and just haven’t gotten into turrets and BCs. I just want the flattest round for stuff under 5-600. I’ve researched a lot of your posts and videos and appreciate all the help.

It's like someone with a Wheelock, lamenting the transition to Smokeless powder and brass cases.(grin) BC plays a role, whether one is aware or not. Hint. What was your favorite 257 Whizum bullet and at what speed...if only to extrapolate in kind. Case in point and assuming like scope height,in like atmosphere,a 257 Wby squirting the 115 NBT at 3500fps shoots a "whopping" 2 fhuqking ionches flatter at the 600yd line, than the 224 Kreedmire 88 at 3250fps launch and identical 250yd zero's. 'Course the Kreedmire is better in the wind and is going faster at impact, due it's BC. It's prolly more fun to shoot too and feel free to ask me how I KNOW.(grin) With the MQ reticle steering said Kreedmire,at the cited zero range, with the cited atmosphere...it will "only" get the 88 ELD to the 1300yd line,by simply looking through the fhuqking scope and NOT touching a thing. A scope's SOLE fhuqking role,is to steer boolits. Hint.................(grin)
