In what year did Marlin start factory drilling and tapping Model 39s on top of the receiver for scopes?

I think 1957,not positive though.My 57,is drilled

just looked at my 'L' 1954 series '39...

drilled & tapped top of receiver.....

along with left side of barrel also tapped for a Weaver style scope mount

336's were done starting in 1955. 39As in 1957. I've read Marlin would add the holes for a fee at request before 1957 but most likely anything older that's D&T was done by a gunsmith.


I've always been crazy but it's kept me from going insane.
