I have a 30" vent rib full choke Ithaca barrel in my shop that I can sell you. It has a 2 3/4" chamber. How do I know if it has a S/N less than 850,000? The barrel appears to be new, or possibly only slightly used.

"...the change happened in 1963 around serial # 855,000 [change in style of barrel]. So if the barrel has a serial number on it then it is the old style with the pitched threads. The newer style barrels of the the interchanging type have no S/N on them. The old style threads are actually pitched just like a thread on a bolt. The newer style threads are straight V groove threads."

The barrel I have was from an M37 newer than S/N 850,000. Too bad, it's a 98% barrel.

Sorry

I agree too bad, my gun is under 855,000 and appears unfired and I believe it represents itself as such., so would have been a great catch. What would you have wanted for it if I could have used it? And you are correct, and as I understand it, all guns below 855,000 were serialized, The barrel on this gun is serialized to match the gun.

Thank you so much for your time and response.

You seem to know about this change, so let me ask you this. Those thread designs below 855,000 were serialized and those after 855,000 dropped the serial number? So, is that a quick way to tell those.... which will fit my gun S/N # 78x,xxx, and those which will not?

Again thanks for your input.

There is no way to tell. Guns before ser855000 did not have interchangeable barrels. Each barrel was fit on a lathe like a rifle barrel because they used pitched threads. Post 855000 guns just have grooves with no pitch.

Did not know that? Thanks

Ithaca Model 37s ....manufactured prior to 855,000, will not accept another barrel of same gauge, in-like-kind made prior to 855,000. It will not fit, learn something new every day. That is a bummer.

Thank you.
