The .338 Federal is simply the .308 Winchester necked up to .33 caliber, so it is very unlikely that Savage chambers it in a long action.

MM>> Savage does some strange things like building a 308 on their 110 action !! that could take a 338 win mag!!> but thanks!!

The 338 fed seem the cats meow these days , it hits hard they say but there is always a trade off > 180_210 bullets are used because of the small case! If you can no use the 225_250gers I think for me the 338 fed is dead in the water >>for Me anyway.

I do believe Savage builds the Hog Hunter in 338 Win.........not 338 Fed

Savage 110 is available in 2 action lengths, short and long, similar to the Winchester 70 and Remington 700. The Hog Hunter is a short action (223, 308 and 338 Federal) thus a 338 Win MAg will not fit in it.

The Model 110 was developed to give the hunters a strong and powerful yet light and affordable rifle. Its model number is derived from its initial retail price of $109.95. It was originally made for .30-06 Springfield and .270 Winchester ammunition. In 1959, a short-action version was introduced, chambered in .243 Winchester and .308 Winchester.

When the Hog Hunter first came out, blind magazine and all - it was available in 338 WM. I remember as I thought why would someone use that for hogs. Then a few years back I see in list in the catalog as 338Fed and the 338WM option had been dropped. I believe that is when they went to all Hog Hunters on the short action and since then the Mag has not been available. I can state I did see this listed with 338WM in their catalog back then.

In this one you are correct (from the past offering) and incorrect on the current offering from Savage arms. Your memory is still in tact.
