Not sure what the hell happened yesterday at the gun show but now I own a Ruger MK II .270win RSI International. smile It's was made in May 1993. It has never been fired. It's truly beautiful. I wish it was a .308 or a 7x57 but for some reason I just had to have it. Has an 18 1/2 inch barrel and I'm wondering how much velocity I should expect to loose. Accuracy issues? Thanks to all that reply!

So I'm guessing from your comments you would have preferred a 7x57. Everything I have read states you gain 25 to 30 fps per inch in the 270 win so 6" is approx 150 fps. Get some 160 grain partitions you should be able to get to 2700 pretty easily. That's 7x57 territory the only difference is .007 of an inch frontal diameter you can get probably gain some velocity over the old European round with your new rifle.

The way I see it you actually bought the 7mm by 64. 7mm is actually .276. Your 18.5" 270 will be able to handle anything a 24" 7x57 will. Some pic's would be nice. I have an RSI in .308 win and the biggest deer and bear I have harvested was with it.

Make sure whatever you put on it for a sling that the screw in the sling if there is one cannot contact the stock. If it does it will damage the stock.

Good luck and shoot straight y'all.

I have the same rifle. Anything better than 2 MOA is winner. Mannlicher stocked rifles are stalking rifle, the one-piece full-length stocks aren't conducive to MOA or better accuracy.

How do you know what month it was made in?

I know that mine was made in 2003, SN 789-987XX, but I don't recall seeing a production date table that showed any data other than the serial numbers at the beginning of the year that the Ruger firearm was made.

EDIT: IMO, the long action Ruger 77 RSIs have noticeably better balance than their short action brothers, but they don't balance quite as well as the Husqvarna mannlichers with longer barrels.

My friend!! I got box of Remmington 150gr Corelokt Factory Ammo and Winchester 150gr Powerpoint ammo with it. I'm damn happy to say it put the 150gr Corelokt's right at MOA today! It did not like the Factory Winchester ammo. I've no doubt I can get it sub MOA... smile Thank god after all I've read. smile Totally pumped! Now I need to decide what scope it will end up with. The scope shown is a VX 2 3x9x40 cds. But I'd like lower rings and I'm thinking a FX-II 6x36mm LR Duplex might be just right... I'd love to know what scopes others are using on this style rifle.

I have removed the rear sights on all of my 77 RSIs and I like 2-7x28 Leupolds because they are proportional sized to the rifles that they are installed on. These are rifles that I look at as they hang on the wall of my gun room and rarely shoot on the range, not rifles that I hunt with any longer.

I'd look at the Leupold 2.5-8x36 or 2-7x33 for a permanent scope. My M77 Mk II RSI in .308 wore a Monarch 2-7x32 for several years until I found a good deal on a Kahles AH 2-7x36, which IMO may be the best 2-7 ever made. The RSI's, to me, call for smaller compact scopes. Mine does 1.25" with the first load I ever worked up. Haven't bothered with working up another, yet.

I've used the 2.5-8x36 Leupold on a short action 77. I'm not sure how I'd like one on a long action 77 like the OP's.

Very nice, much better than a stinky old 7x57 or 308 whistle

The 160 gr Partition mentioned earlier is a favourite of mine and has been very accurate in both of the 270's I have owned. I really like the 150 gr Ballistic Tip too in my curent 270 Win for deer. Those two bullets can cover anything in North America.

I have the original M77 ultra lights and the original international full wood, I like them better as I like the tang safety.
