I have a Number 1 in .405, I bought the last 200 rounds of Hornady brass I have ever seen online and also have 3 boxes of the Hornady factory ammo, 2 with the pointed bullet and 1 with the original flat point. I found 3 full boxes of original Winchester 300 gr. RN factory ammo online as well. The rifle shoots very close to MOA with the Hornady ammo. I have not yet started loading for it but also stocked up with Hornady and Woodleigh bullets. I'm glad I got all this stuff while the getting was good, because the .405 picture is starting to look a bit bleak.

Those Hornady flat points are impressive on deer. The two I shot with them last fall each traveled about two feet, straight down.

However, I am having shoulder replacement surgery in 2 weeks, so I wonder if I will still be able to use this rifle in the future. The recoil is not horrendous, but it is certainly not a .243.

I had rotator cuff surgery two years ago and have worried about the same.... Have not shot the .405 since then but plan to this summer...

Hope the shoulder is OK after the surgery. I guess you did the PT? A cute therapist helps a guy along quite a bit. I had the same one with my shoulder and back. They know what they are doing with those eye lashes, batting them and leaning forward on purpose. Makes a guy go a lot harder. In PT guys! I thought about a 405 in an Encore. Just haven't done it. Sadly I have enough unusual calibers already and don't need another that Hornady has discontinued. I used to shoot the 180 gr SSP bullet in my 358 Winchester Lone Eagle. Was more fun than a 250 gr bullet. Rusty
