Has anyone tried the TSS loads ( any manufacturers) in a regular full choke? I see a lot of good looking patterns but they're all shot through specialized Turkey chokes. I've got a new to me Savage 24 in 222/20 I might try out this year.

Flush full with a 2-3/4" 1-7/16oz load of 9s at 40yds. That was fired from a Beretta A400 XPLOR 20ga with 26" bbl. My old Savage 311 with 28" bbls does well with the full bbl as well.

My sons Benelli M2 20 youth shoots the 3” Federal tss 9s pretty well with the factory full. Not quite as good as 7RMs above but a 40 yard killing gun. Bout 180 in the 10”. 20 years ago I would have been very happy with the same pattern with 3” copper plated lead in a 12. Amazing we ever killed any thing 20 years ago and even more amazing we ever pull the trigger and not make one flop today

Yes. I load my own, but I would expect the factory loads to do the same. In fact, I went as loose an improved mod. for my boy on a light load to give a forty yard hunting pattern. That's the great thing about TSS. You can use what is basically a dove load and factory chokes at the usual ranges.

I don’t have any pic’s but my 20 ga SxS with IC/IM provides dense killing patterns at 40 yds with 3” Fed Heavyweight 6’s; these are tungsten shot but whether alloy (like some loads are) or pure tungsten, I didn’t bother to know. Nevertheless, it’s patterns beat many 12 ga 3” turkey loads out of my Benelli 12 with a special turkey choke at the same distance.

It seems to raise 20 ga effectiveness into what used to be the realm of the 12. I have no interest in shooting a turkey beyond 40 yds.

I have two related questions on the TSS. My 8 yr old grandson is using a Rem 1100 2 3/4" 20LW. Bbl is cut down to 20" with a turkey choke tube. What is the recoil of the Federal TSS loads compared to lead?
Also, I have my Dad's 20g double Western Arms made by Ithaca, late 1920's. I want to take a turkey with it just cause. What is the pressure level of the Federal TSS 2 3/4" loads.

thanks

Does Federal actually have a 2 3/4" 20ga TSS load? You can do your own down to 7/8oz with #10s. That's pleasant to shoot.
