I have a great little SP101 3”, .357 that I’m considering doing a spring kit on.
Either Wolf or Mcarbo......
Anyone with experience have suggestions or comments?

T through a lot of double action cyclesI’ve used Wolf spring kits in a few revolvers and auto...always been happy with their stuff.

I never did springs on my SP 101 .357 (2 1/4”). I was on the road a lot at the time I got it, and pulled it through a lot of double action cycles while driving. That smoothed it out to one of the best double action pulls ever.

I installed a Wolff kit in my SP101 years ago, both the reduced power trigger return spring and the 9 lb hammer spring. No issues with light hammer strikes.

I've had my SP101 since the mid 90s, so lots of dry firing plus the Wolff springs made a good package.

I only own three revolvers, an early 80s Dan Wesson 715, S&W 64-3, and the SP101, so comparisons are limited, but when looking at both single and double action the little Ruger has the best combination. The DW has the best single action trigger, the S&W has best (by a small margin) double action trigger, while the Ruger is now second best in both single and double action feel in my hands.

My opinions on trigger feel are somewhat subjective, and not just about pull weight (which I've never actually measured with scale, just go by relative comparison b/w the revolvers). I also consider smoothness, crispness, overtravel, stacking, and ability to stage. For example, I consider the Dan Wesson double action as the worst even though it is light and smooth, but is just about impossible to stage. I consider the 64-3 single action the worst because of overtravel.

Thanks for the response guys 👍

I’ll order the Wolff kit and try all the hammer spring combinations.
Probably just leave the trigger return spring stock....

It’s a field and stream carry tool, for the most part.
While I’m not dissatisfied with the stock trigger, knowing it can be even better for
so little time and money makes me want to try the springs out.
