I was interested in the answers to the op's question but it seems not many realize he was asking how you carry your rifle, not your binos.

I often carry my rifle with the belly resting atop my closed AGC pack. It balances nicely with bbl pointed left and butt stock to the right. Alternatively, over my shoulder with a sling or in a scabbard attached to my pack frame.

I use treking poles so I find its best for me to have my rifle secured in my Badlands 2800 gun bearer. I found having the rifle on a sling was too much constant adjusting without a free hand. Where I hunt theres little chance of me sneaking up on a deer. Its mostly walking to a spot to sit down. That said I can get my pack off and the rifle out of the sling more quitely and quickly than I thought I could.

Oops, to answer the right question. When hiking in in the mornings or out in the dark at night I use the Stone Glacier Quick Release on my KUIU pack until I get to were I am going to hunt, then it goes on my shoulder using the sling. I originally ordered a KUIU gun bearer but the bucket was to small for the butt of my gun.
