Looking for recommendations for reputable, professional elk guides in New Mexico. Four hunters. Willing to do 1x1 or 2x1. Accommodations not particular (wall tent, bunk house, lodge). No one expecting to kill a record book bull. Just looking for a fair chance at representative animals. Budget not to exceed $10K per hunter all up. Preferably, in the $7K to $8K range.
I figure we are probably too late for 2019. May end up being a 2020 proposition. Constructive feedback and recommendations greatly appreciated via open forum or via PM.
Finally, what is special regarding NM Elk Unit 12 that most of the outfitters mention having private land in Unit 12 ?

There are a few large ranches in 12 but most of the ranches are small. Since all of the authorizations are ranch only , outfitters buy up adjoining ranches to create larger huntable blocks.
If looking to hunt 12, I’d look at Black Mountain Outfitters.

Bucks & Bulls operates in NM on several ranches. I’ve got several friends who’ve hunted with them the past few years, all had good hunts. One of them has went back several times. I believe the ranches they’ve hunted are southeast of Raton.

Enter the draw regardless. There's a chance you get drawn and go on a trophy elk hunt for only the guide fee which is typically less than $6K. John Jaquez, of San Juan River Outfitters. Hunts in some of NM's prime areas, for both elk and mule deer.

About when does NM release draw results?
All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

he's on facebook under, red rock outfitters I've hunted with Toby three times. Everyone has tagged out every time. Going again this Fall. They work hard to get your animal. We've had a blast every trip.
