thinking of getting a metal roof on my house so hopefuly wont have to worry about new roof after i retire ,thought about a standing seam metal roof ,but saw were interlocking metal shingle roofs were a little cheaper ,and easier to install, anyone have the metal shingle roof ,and how do they compare to a standing seam metal roof ,the pro-and cons ,any drawbacks to metal shingles? wil let the roofers install ,wasnt sure if they had a better chance of leaking

I can't give the comparison. But, my girlfriend owns a rental house, several years ago she rented the house to a couple from Australia.
And one day, I was up there working on the roof patching some shingles, and the parents of the Australian guy were in town for a visit.
So I got to talking with him about the roof.
He had never heard of asphalt fiberglass shingles. And I explained to him that in the best case, the shingles would last 30 years, and then have to be replaced.

This Australian guy was shocked. He said they have no such thing in Australia. He said that all the roofs are either standing seam metal, or metal shingles, or else those clay pipes like they use in Italy. He was astonished that it would be routine practice to use asphalt shingles that you know will have to be replaced.

Now on my new house I have the standing seam metal and it is great. I have never worked with metal shingles, but, they are in widespread use in Australia.

I hear very little bad about well installed steel roof.

Go with standing seam, you’ll get insurance break I believe.
