I have to bring home an old Outdoor Life cover I have up at the hunt camp and scan it for this thread. It's a VERY similar depiction, with a guy pretty torn up flying off the cliff thus sparing any more damage from the grizzly swatting at the air just above him. Title of the article was "Jack's Last Hunt".
Seemed every issue in that era had some life or death struggle in the wilds.

Seeing that ad (or a recopy) as a kid certainly spurred my imagination. Likely instilled into my subconscious to pack-up and move to Wyoming.
