Just purchased a 93r17(non accutrigger). For those of you with this rifle....what ammo does yours prefer? How does it group?

Mine liked anything. It was not picky. I know that's not helpful, but it might ease your mind a little.

I shot mostly the Hornady 17 VMax loads, as my Marlin preferred them, but the Savage shot 20gr.HPs equally well (though not quite as well as the Marlin shot the Hornadys). It was absolutely normal for that rifle to shoot under MOA, if it did worse, it was my fault alone. I gave that rifle to my buddy, because he NEEDED an HMR, and I kept the Marlin. Still have it, too.

My first 17 HMR was a 93R17BVSS, the stainless heavy barrel style with a laminated stock. It shoots nearly any 17 grain load MOA or better at 100 yards, but doesn't do quite as well with any 20 grain load. I loaned it to several guys who were so impressed with how easy it was to shoot small groups with that they went out and bought one of their own.

I like the Marlin 917s better, 'cause the stock is a little larger and fits me better.

One quick question....what bore guide do you recommend? Have everything else in hand except that.

My heavy barrel 93 prefers the 20 grain to the 17, though both are plenty accurate.
