Am loading 62 gr. Fed Fusion bullets in my AR for hogs.

Would like to hear from those who shoot 62's in their AR's, what are your favorite loads.

I have most of the usual powders.

for me it's either Benchmark or Varget with the 62s

Never tried Benchmark, had good luck with Varget.

Just loaded a batch with 25 gr. Pwr Pro 2000, which some say is the same as CFE-223. Reportedly St. Marks in FL, who makes both, claims different formulation. I’m wondering if the anti copper fouling properties with CFE-223 constitute the different formulation.

I’ve been working up a load for these based on the Saterllee approach to finding velocity nodes. I’m using a Magnetospeed V3. My sweet spot for that load is 25.1 gr Varget if memory serves. I can confirm later since I’m not near my data at the moment.

Hogdon shows varget at 22.1 to 24.1 for a 62 grain bullet. I think that is conservative.

For AA2230, 21.4 to 23.8G, and GI 62, and a bit more with a 62 barnes bullet 24.5G. I have 2 cases of AA2230C, and it is a little slower than 2230..

Personally I stay away from max loads, and give a grain or so buffer for hot days or thick brass. For both powders I use 24 grains and depending on the reference reloading manual, that gives a bit of tolerance.

Yeah, conservative.

I found accuracy with 26 gr Varget, 62 Fed Fusion. Cycles great in the .223 AR.

Never clocked it out of the 16” barrel.
