Anything in this range would be great. The only thing that I dont like about 2x7 is that they generally have a smaller objective. If your going to be hunting in the woods, the larger objective will gather a little more light. I personally would go with a 3x9x40mm.

Telescopic sights don't gather light. Maximize the useable Exit Pupil, contrast, and light transmission......

I have 4.5x14’s. VX IIIi on my rifles. I have a few 3.5x 10’s. Either one would be nice on your rifle. I like the CDS models.

They don't gather light past the objective lens. Once it goes in there it's up to good light transmission to insure as much light as possible is transmitted through the scope to the ocular lens. So light gathering only pertains to the objective lines. Lots of cheap scopes with 50mm objective lenses can gather a lot of light, but what separates them from really good scopes is their percentage of light transmission. The better they transmit the light through the scope the more gets through to the ocular lens and your eyes.

For woods hunting with a 2-7x32, 4x is likely the most magnification needed, and has a huge 8mm exit pupil set at 4x. The eye pupil can only open to 5mm at best, so the extra light gathering of a 40mm objective lens is wasted. Why haul any more scope than needed?

So I bought a new model 70 7mm-08 featherweight. Great price, could not resist it.
Anyway, what would you scope it with? Variables only, please. Uses will be mostly antelope, pigs, deer. I've got a VX-R 3-9x40 with a Ballistic Firedot reticle on my 30-06, but I haven't killed anything with it yet. I especially like the reticle. It's illuminated for low light use, which could come in handy on a pig hunt. It also has enough ranging ability that it's easy and fast to ring steel out to 425m, which could come in handy for antelope. My only beef with the reticle is that the crosshairs are 1 MOA in thickness at 9x. That makes it hard to shoot tiny groups but it's a hunting scope, not a load-testing scope. Okie John
If Montana had a standing army, a 270 Win with Federal Blue Box 130's would be the standard issue.

I really like the Zeiss Conquest HD5 2-10x42 on a 7mm-08. Super clear optics, tons of light gathering for pigs, great reticle choices for speed goats.
I also run the 3-15 version on my 6.5 Creedmoor. Great scopes that are nearly impossible to beat for all-around use and quality at the price.
What could be a sadder way to end a life than to die having never hunted with great dogs, good friends and your family?

If hunting in the woods, I would stay below 2.5 on the low end. Nothing worse than jumping a critter and not being able to find it in the scope. Been there.

On my 7x57 Featherweight I have a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40. Other scopes would be a Leupold VX-3 2.5-8x356 or a 3.5-10x40. Good luck.

Nice rig.
Re: objective size comment by another poster above....Compare Exit pupil on: 2-7x33 2.5-8x36 3-9x40 Objective size is relative to power.
And yes as above many hunters eyes can only utilize 5mm. Optic quality matters as well as reticle specs. Do agree on comment - why carry more than you will need.
Scope choice depends on individual user (vision) and practical application

Another vote for a VX-3i 2.5-8 or 3.5-10. I have a 3.5-10 on my 7-08, and may swing a 2.5-8 for my Grendel when it's built.
