In the single shot forum when I had some bad luck with one of my Contender barrels, you posted that laugh I thought you might like this. A few months ago, I ordered a 22 K Hornet body die and an 8mm Mauser case gauge from Brownells. They were backorderd, so I had to wait. Look what I got in the mail today!

If you look at the invoice, you can see my 22 K Hornet die listed, but look which body die I got. grin So I will send this pic to Brownells after I post this. I wonder, did someone order this body die and get a 22 K Hornet die instead?

Looks like an excuse to build another rifle to me, therefore serendipitous, if inconvenient.

6mm/.22-.250 Imp. Ain't that the Canadian 6mm Creedmoor?

The streak continues.

"Luck" must be contagious. The book I ordered on 03/10 was shipped via some jackleg hybrid express company and never reached the USPS for its trip here. My third shipping futz-up in about a month.

I hope you get your book and I hope Brownells answers my email today.

I have shipped the die back to Brownells for replacement. I found that Redding mislabeled the box. According to the Internets, the 6mm/250 IMP 40 body die mfr. part no. is 75406, but that is not what is on the box. (See pic above)

Here is the email I sent Brownells.
---

I have been digging around on your site and the Internet. Some mislabeling has occurred that doesn't appear to be Brownell's fault.

On your site, the 22 K Hornet body die I ordered has mfr. part no. 75664. Brownells stock no 749 006 908WB.

But as you will see when you get the die, the above mfr. part no. for the 22 K Hornet, 75664, is printed on the 6mm/250 IMP 40 box. The Brownells stock no. for the 6mm/250 IMP 40 is 749-004-501WB.

Both items are special order. I would like a 22 K Hornet body die please. I suggest whoever picks the order should check inside and out to confirm that it is, in fact, 22 K Hornet body die.

Edited to add: 16 minutes after I sent them my email, I received this:

Steve,

Thank you. I will let the special order dept know so they are aware of the discrepancy and hopefully we can get that fixed for the next shipment. Again I do apologize for the inconvenience.

They have received the mislabeled body die. It appears that I will have to wait for a 22 K Hornet body die.

I finally got my book, and for free because the seller didn't have another, so told me to just keep it if it ever showed.

Coinkidinkly, the other copy of this book I have, The Hunting Time, by John E Howard, was also free. Mr. Howard, who besides writing books, also sells them, sent me a copy along with some other books I bought from him a few years back. My grandson got the new one.

Mr. Howard's book is an excellent one, full of stories like the ones people are always complaining are missing from current sportsmans' magazines. It's available from his company, St. Hubert's Press, and also from Amazon at times.

That's good to hear. I still like to snuggle up with a book, although I do have a Kindle. I buy a few ebooks. Hornady's latest manual is in ebook form. It was cheaper and I got it instantly. I was too lazy to look around for a paper copy. In the summer, I spend many days reading on the deck of my trailer. I have a 30 fter on a river. It is quiet and lets me unwind.

What kind of stories does he write? Adventure, humour, or something else?

The book chronicles his lifetime of hunting, from his youth and early hunts in the North woods of the Midwest (and Canada IIRC), to his
Western hunts for Mule Deer and pronghorns. It's a pretty big book.

He had a longtime sweetheart deal with a rancher that let him drive his Blazer in and camp while he hunted. Again, IIRC, all his hunts except for moose were DIY, drive in and camp affairs.

I should start re-reading it while I wait for the new Longmire and Montalbano books to come out.

Those stories can be very engaging. I wonder why these kinds of stories have fallen out of favour? Just because your life is busy, shouldn't mean you don't want to read about what many purport to be a favourite hobby.

I hope they will become popular again.

Bought my Kindle when I retired in 2010. Keeps chuggin' along. It's even been to China and back now. Good thing they didn't check it; it's got a bunch of Bibles and history titles that might not sit well with them. Lots of third-party free stuff too, old novels, historical books, and such. That stuff I have backed up on my old Mac too in case of a whoopsie. Since my wife commandeered the Kindle, I mostly read my e-books on this iPad.

The file system on a Kindle is pretty simple. I've blown mine out and reloaded from the Mac a couple of times. Amazing what will fit in a couple of gigs

I find my Kindle Fire very handy for trips. Being able to load some books onto it, makes it compact. Being able to sit at Timmys with a coffee and downloading some books makes travelling easier.

Brownells received my return and sent me this.

Steve,

Thanks for checking, yes we have the return done. Your replacement order has been entered but they are still out of stock. We are expecting these to be back in stock within the next 2-3 weeks. Your order will automatically ship and you will get a confirmation and tracking at that time.

Thank you for your patience, I apologize for the confusion.

So, I have to wait another three weeks for them to get a shipment from Redding. They'll package and mail the replacement to me, which will take two more weeks after that. I hope, crossing fingers and toes, that I receive the correct die. Brownells has handled it very well, but I hope their warehouse staff finds the discrepancy that I pointed out and corrects it.
