Last week while at my local range a couple that I invited as guests showed up with two new Ar' 15's, I believe both were Rugers, they had not fired the them yet, they brought some HSN ammo (223), said they bought 500 rounds on sale. Anyway neither Ar would shoot those rounds, the cartridges did not even have a dent on the primer, we cleaned both firearms and lubed them, same issue, I let them fire some of my hand loaded rounds and they fired without an issue, apparently the rounds are not chambering all the way, by just looking at the rounds we could not see any problems. Has anyone had a similar issue with this brand of ammo.

If it's HSM they have ridiculously hard primers. I bought some 308 that didn't run for [bleep] either.

Definitely the ammo not the guns.

I've shot a few thousand of HSM in 223. A good portion was 69gr Moly in the orange box (Rost has a good story on how they got into my hands). No failures to feed, fire or extract. Good accuracy. If had the ability, I would check the headspace and body diameter on a gauge. I'm guessing the OAL is okay if it passes a visual). Could be a combination of a chamber on the small end (reamer at the end of its life), and case body or headspace on the large end. ...just guessing.

One of our club members took a few rounds home with him and discovered that there is a slight bulge about halfway down the cases, believes the ammo can be salvaged by running the rounds through a case body die.

I'd be contacting the manufacturer for a refund.

Never seen a bad round of HSM. Could be though, NO one is perfect, contacting the internet instead of the manufacturer is about bass ackwards.
