A friend calls me up the other day and says come on over, I have something to show you. When I get there he takes me down into the basement and on a table sits two rifles. One a Winchester model 70 and the other a Savage 99. Both look absolutely flat brand new. Tells me they were his late fathers and his brother did not want either of them. According to the serial number the 70 was made in 1947 and the 99 about the same time. The 99 has 99% case colors on the lever, beautiful. The 70 has just a couple of very slight marks on the stock, but the barrel and receiver are perfect. I would not be surprised if they were never fired. The 70 is a standard grade in 22 Hornet and the 99 in 300 Savage. He doesn't want to sell them and isn't really a gun guy so that's why I got involved. He just wants to know what they're worth. I know this is a Winchester sight so I'm sneaking in the 99 also, so what in your opinion would these two firearms be worth in todays market? Thanks in advance. BCM

No help on a Salvage, but that Hornet could bring 2500-3000

The Savage could be worth anywhere from 300-3000.
Depending on model, date of manufacture, etc, etc.
No way to tell really without pictures
A detailed description of the gun and a serial number would help....

Your friend is a lucky guy. Two very delectable rifles.
If the Savage is truly as nice as you say (ie: very nearly mint) its value would nudge the $1000 mark.
I would say the value of the '47 Hornet would be more like $500- but that's because I'm on the hunt for one, haha! (But yeah, 2-3K isn't beyond reason if it too is in mint condition. Well used but not abused ones are easily $1500.)

Boxcarman: I was born in 1947 and have a special affliction to Model 70 Winchester's born in that year as well. If your friend ever wishes to part with that 22 Hornet I would be a player for it. If un-altered and in the condition you described, I would gladly pay $3,000.00 for it. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

VarmintGuy, Thanks for responding and I'll tell him if he ever wants to move the 70 he has a standing offer. BCM
