I was thinking about a NULA build with Mr. Forbes and was wondering if anyone had any recent delivery time information (when you ordered, when you received, etc).

I know the easy answer is call him, but I hate to take up his time with a question the 'fire could answer. Thanks.

Yeah good idea.
Rather than get a direct answer ask a bunch who is gonna give you answers all over the board.

Melvin can be sort of cranky at times, maybe the OP has dealt with him before and doesn't want to stir him up.

I've dealt with Melvin several times. He has never been anything but a gentleman that knows his business.
If the conversation is limited to "business", you'll experience the same.
As a final thought, for a while he was not taking further orders as he had fallen to far behind. Many of his qualified work force retired, and they have proven difficult to replace.
No substitute for talking directly with Mr. Forbes.

I bought two of his rifles several years ago and have spoken with Mr. Forbes by phone on a number of occasions. Always a gentleman, very helpful and easy to deal with.

Don't get in a hurry as it may take longer than even what Melvin tells you. Call to make certain he is accepting new orders, seems like he wasn't last year at least for awhile.

I ordered a rifle in July 2017. Received it October 2018 and it is a excellent shooter. I placed another order in June 2018 and have heard nothing from him on that order yet.

Why would you want one?

Maybe because he wants one. Rusty

I have three of Melvin’s rifles and they are nice, however I own a Fieldcraft also and just can’t see enough difference to wait 1-2 years and pay $3600 for a NULA.

Yep. Even if Barrett doesn't build the Fieldcraft in your preferred chambering, it's easy enough to have a smith chamber a new barrel....and even with the cost of the Fieldcraft, new barrel, and custom work, you'd be spending $1500 less than a NULA.

There are other OTC choices now that like the FC, give you a lot of what people like about the NULAs at a much lower price. The Bergara Premier I examined at the range is another rifle of apparent excellent quality for a reasonable price, and without the wait. I'd dearly love a NULA, but it's a bit out of my price range, and maybe my longevity range too, given the long interval between ordering and receiving.

Forbes deserves tremendous credit for showing what can be done, and for stepping up when others failed to deliver on their versions of his rifles.

And to think that the rifle you see now in a NULA is as far as I know very much the same gun he introduced in in 1985. Quite an accomplishment......

So did we figure out if he was taking orders again?
