Things were different then. At the time it made quite the splash.
Nearly every gun rag featured it. I have a couple of other mags from the era.

It's NOT a bad round and with the right bullet (in the right place) nothing can survive it.

Wow 1977, that sure takes me back. I seem to recall Ken Waters writing some good articles about the 8mm Rem Mag. One of those cartridges that seemed to perform better than the numbers would suggest if I recall correctly.

Man! I was 12 years old when I read that article. I wanted an 8 bad!

The 190 Scirocco at 3200 fps with .550 BC isn't bad!

I don't know. Since I'm not hunting mine now, I had stocked up on components so I haven't looked lately.
I bet someone here knows.

Thnx

Jerry

Yeah it happens.

I should get it out and do load development with those Speer 200g SP's.....

Ken, I'm not opposed to M R C at all.

My 700 BDL scoped weighs 8.25 # +/-

I would NOT want a 'light weight', I don't think I need to xplain ! whistle laugh

Those guys do carry some interesting calibers-I was on their site a few days ago and saw one of their rifles chambered in 378 Weatherby. 😎

Me, too. That would be a great setup. 8mm Mags, people who hunt big enough game to make use of 8 mags and people who can stalk close in are cool.

People who have limited hunting experience outside SE AK, have a big ego despite ultra-short stature, shoot with key boards and pretend to be long-range snipers are not necessarily cool. Though, it must suck to be mistaken for a Nintendo character. It may sound like a comment from a democrap on my part, but I have empathy for such and understand the hit to ego that may occur for being so limited. It could even cause excessive shooting with said keyboard in some cases, though heavy meds might solve that drag on society.

Back to rifles: I want a properly tuned CRF 8mm RM. My last Remington 8 RM fed terribly but what a round!

You said, " My last Remington 8 RM fed terribly but what a round! "

Do you know why ?

Mine feeds normal or very well.

BTW, I really like my T3X Lite 7 RM, I got from you. Killed a few WT last season . Thanks

I'm not sure why JWall. I didnt take time to figure it out but probably could have been solved. Interestingly enough it shot everything into an inch or better at 100 and slightly better at 200. Older Remington KS. Cant remember what I did with it.

I have a 90 year old friend that got a big 8 as soon after they came out. I met him in the early 90's and he extolled the virtues of the cartridge. If I remember correctly he shot 170gr Sierras at book max loads. It was all about the flattest trajectory he could get. He practiced a lot with his big 8 at very long ranges. All of this before all the range finding and ballistic apps rage.

He shot numerous deer from 400-600 yards, back when that was some damn good shooting. I do not know if he still has the Remington or not. Need to go visit him one of these days.

I owned one in a classic, and just like the Whelen I once owned in the same rifle, it beat the snot out of me.

I think the 8 had a place during that time period. But there are better choices in this day.
