Yeah, no kidding. Sen. Curt Vanderwall of Ludington wants to allow baiting for deer during open hunting seasons. Nevermind the science that we know to date about CWD or the fact that baiting makes the deer go nocturnal. Clearly, the Farm Bureau got to him. Some salesman from Lucky Buck Minerals says the without baiting, deer are going to go in search of minerals. You can't make this stuff up.

Interesting. I had heard rumors of this bill potentially coming through. Not to play devils advocate but can you point out some studies that link CWD to baiting? I don’t recall seeing one.

In Pa. baiting is illegal and CWD is cited as the reason why. UNLESS YOU BUY A BAITING PERMIT FROM THE GAME COMISSION THEN IT IS LEGAL.....seriously you can not make this stuff up!

Oh yes you can. From the latest Pa baiting regulations. And it is not Statewide, only in the Southeast Special Regulations Area is baiting allowed and only on private property. Something you failed to include.

“A baiting permit no longer is needed when using bait to hunt deer on private property in the Southeast Special Regulations Area. However, other requirements remain. Bait used within the Southeast Special Regulations Area must be shelled corn or protein-pellet supplements; bait accumulation must not exceed 5 gallons at any time; bait only can be used from two weeks before the opening of the first deer season to the close of the last deer season; automatic mechanical feeders must be used; and feeders must distribute bait during hunting hours, no more than three times a day. Landowners and hunters need to ensure bait sites comply with regulations. While the use of bait while hunting is prohibited broadly in Pennsylvania, it is allowed conditionally on private property within the Southeast Special Regulations Area, where traditional hunting and deer control methods have proven ineffective.”

MI ban won't be lifted. The so called experts are to narrow minded. If the bill passes, some judge will just block it.

I think it has more to do with water sources, hell, some areas it's not safe for humans to drink because of PFAS. I'm sure it effects animals also. Ironically where the water is a problem cwd is in the area. Not saying that's it, it's ironic.

Set your feeders to throw in the daytime and hungry deer will come in the daytime. They will put there nose in the same dirt as sick hungry deer though so any diseases will spread. Sick deer probably gravitate to feeders more than healthy ones so maybe they are thinking more of the sick ones will be taken.
