I’m using the Colt. Can’t remember the model, but it’s the one that was packed with red netting on the barrel. It has a stainless, medium weight barrel, and is very accurate.

Rock River Coyote Carbine... All of them work, find or build one that has the features you want.

I built two. A M4 clone 1-9 twist and a HBAR again 1-9 twist. Depends on your criteria on which one is best. Lighweight barrels might be better than mine for carrying around and taking just a few shots. Mine serve double or triple duty with sage rats in the mix so I don't mind the extra weight. But they are still highly portable and I'll use them from off hand to shooting sticks. 1-9" twist allows me to use 50 gr- 75gr bullets.

Bushmaster Preditor, or Varmiter, Rockriver Coyote, all are good. No need for more than .223 for Coyote.

Respects,
Richard

After building and using DPMS, Armalite & RockRiver ARs I have settled on the Remington R-15s. They are set-up for hunting.

Hey Frogman! What is that on the front of your R-15 fore end?

My R-15 is the 22" fluted medium weight barrel fixed stock 1/9 twist made by Bushmaster for Remington's MSR entry. Put in a rattle stop under the lock pin and 3.5# single stage trigger. Plenty of accuracy with 55 gr SP and 68 gr HPBT Hornady bullets to 400 + yds. I took a 1 piece Weaver scope base and drilled another hole in it. Attached it too the tubular forend via the drilled and tapped holes at the end of it. Got a Surefire set up that will attach there. Also use a Caldwell shell catcher on the gun. Just got a couple of aluminum 20 rd ASC mags and they work very slick.MB

Good rig. I put a Coyote Carbine upper on a lower I built, and it really shoots good. I also have a Remington R-15 that is a nice rifle. Either of those is good enough.

I'm liking my own build on a AR15 format with a 16" barrel and some premium internals. I'm using a 40g NBT at 3630fps over my chronograph for many types of shooting from rock chucks, coyotes, and even a couple of smaller mule deer bucks. I tried to get it as light as practical but did go with a medium weight barrel for the accuracy. Mission First Tactical offers a AR-15 stock that weighs in a 5 oz called the minimalist.

I'm anxious to finish the build of another AR-15 in 6.5 Grendel with a 20" barrel set up also to be light as possible. I have a Vortex Diamond Back Tactical FFP 6x24 50mm waiting for the work to be done on it. This will be set up for long long range work on coyotes and deer and antelope once it is finished, and if my estimates of velocity are correct, it should be good to go for up to 850 yards before I run out of scope.

I'm finding that the coyote population around here is getting a lot of heat and not sticking around for much of anything. Although I did call one in to about 5 yards before he surprised e coming from behind, where he wasn't suppose to be, and getting back to the high sagebrush before my feeble quick attempts missed.

I was out in the desert with a cattle rancher a while ago driving around on his range and noticed that while we saw coyotes they were all running at top speed away from us at about 700 yards and gaining more fast. I asked him if he was getting after the coyotes and he said "Damn Straight".

If you're looking for light weight, look at the Barrett Rec 7

A couple of things to look for. A good trigger and free floated. The trigger is the main deal. But any "hunting" one or even duty ones will do for coyotes. A good trigger makes it easier to shoot well.

I thought I would really like a 24" long varmint barrel on the AR platform, but to me it turned the gun into one clumsy piece of equipment.
May be good on bipod, but I am far from enthralled with it.
I'm thinking 20" and down is where it is at!

Yes, for the grammar nazis I realize one should not end the sentence with a preposition.

20" works great for just about any need I have for my AR. Handles just fine and is very accurate. Good luck with yours...
