That's a good one Sitka. I remember back in the 60's, a friend and I took two girls that were working working at Fishing Bridge to the West Yellowstone dump to see the Grizzlies.
Boy were we impressed! Those buggers came in to the dump and the Coyotes and the Black Bears took off running. One walked right next to the car and had to look down to see in the window of our 1958 Bel Air. It was not long after that the dumps were moved or made bear proof.
I think shrapnel can come up with the dates. It was 1966 when we went there.

Now back to the monster pictured..

I would cshit a white blackbird if I ran up on a Bear. I would probably freeze and become a scrawny snack.

Chunky little bugger.

From that angle he doesn't look like a spring bear....might be the way the picture is taken. A picture is necessarily accurate anymore.

I wonder how much that bear would weigh. I wouldn’t have a decent guess. Maybe 800??

I suck at guessing feral pigs weight.

They grow them big in that area. Watched a big silver backed grizzly ripping a hole in the ground in Park Creek one year I was hunting up there.

The Wyo. G &F had to kill a big bore about 15 or so years ago, just out of Meeteetse. The bear was weighed on a local scale, that had an 850 pound maximum.....the bear exceeded that! A full mount was made.....he’s in the Meeteese Museum! A pretty impressive bear! memtb

Most bears are quite fat when they first come out in early Spring. They actually lose very little fat during torpor.

The odd lucky bear may find a winterkill, but most will be using their fat stores while stuff greens up.

I bow hunt in island park. We get a lot of big griz in the area during bow season. I think some are locals and some come from the park for gut piles. Someone always has pics of big ones on their trail cams. My hunting partner got charged by a big one a few years back. He won't hardly bow hunt the area anymore.

I mostly agree with you, but I have seen many circumstances where spring brown bears had opportunity to eat meat and passed. In fall they will eat their own kind immediately but not so much in the spring. They seem to want to run some grass through to restart the processing properly.

SHEET!, glad your Bud kept it together and made a good clean hit, I got too see a big silver sided grizz hunting elk in The Thorofare one year, ranged after he left at 88 yards across a draw, that 338 in my lap looked like a damn water gun, a cinnamon colored black bear was shot in his left eye socket bow hunting elk and mule deer back in the 90's, I couldn't scare him off, less than 20 yards is close enough, I shot him with my right knee on the wet black dirt, after the shot, I jumped up so hard and fast I ripped the tail end out of my hunting pants, when he fell in the tall yellow grass and I couldn't see him, I really got a case of the heebs! smile

You eastern tender feet are funny. This is nothing more than a average size boar. I spend 30+ days a year in grizzly country and have seen plenty. Guys miss judge the size of bears all the time, especially grizzlies.
