Anyone have a model 70 that's stainless, green laminated stock in this caliber? I think it's called a Alaskan. It has baco on the barrel. Sorry I'm new to the 375 caliber so I'm trying to pick a rifle. Tell me the good, bad and ugly. I saw one for sale that looks new for 999.00. Thanks in advance.

Any big bore at 1 thousand bucks and in good shape is a steal! Rem and 70 win went to custom for big bores >> something to think about for 1 G. Enjoy

I think you should buy it at that price. Winchester does not show that in their latest catalog.

I think it may have been a special run of rifles. That's what I have found so far by surfing the net.

Winchester offered that version for a few years IIRC. The retail price now for the wood Alaskan .375 H&H version is $1439.99. At $999 it is priced to sell "quickly."

If it's stainless with the slimmer Alaskan barrel profile that would be a rare find and amazing rifle.

It is desirable, as I assume that it has the Classic controlled feed action.

But then, I have three of them, so what do I know? Two are LH and one is a pre-64.

I would jump on that. The Alaskan addressed the number one complaint with the M70 Express Classics in that they previously used the same barrel diameter as the 458 Winchester on all the rifles, the Alaskan is more like a magnum sporter contour. Green Laminate would be a little heavier than a synthetic but plenty solid. You could always put on a lighter stock afterwards if you felt the need. If you ever change your mind you could pretty much get your money back unless they go into production again even then you would get most of it back.

It is a crf action, has the barrel boss for the rear sight, it's a matte stainless finish and I said the stock was green laminate but it is really grey. I think you guys have talked me into this so I will probably get it in the next couple days. I was going to get a interarms whitworth 375 for around 700.00 but I think I like the Winchester better. Thanks for your thoughts.

The Whitworth is not a bad choice either. It would come down to which fit and felt better and the over all weight.

I have the blued/walnut M70 Alaskan, assembled in Portugal. I've also had the Whitworth.375 and loved the feel of the stock and handling but the Winchester I can cycle the bolt effortlessly from the shoulder for quick follow up shots, not so with the Whitworth, I get a jam in feeding half the time on the second round.

My .458 Whitworth is no problem from the shoulder in cycling the next round. I guess the extra 3/8 inch or so bolt travel, with M98 geometry and my gangly arms makes a difference.

I saw these stainless,/laminate M70s a while back and should have jumped on that.

I had a whitworth and just couldn't make myself like it. I finally found a Classic Stainless a few years ago. In its stock form it feels like a 2x4. I had Redneck chop the barrel to 20" and reinstall front sight. I love it now

I got the rifle but I'm not smart enough to post pictures on here from my tablet. Can't wait to shoot it. Thanks for all the encouragement.

I've got a 375 Model 70 with a Douglas barrel that is a lighter contour than the usual Winchester 375 barrel. It's terrific!

I think you'll enjoy yours. Some excellent handloads avail for the 375 H&H BTW.

For the 270 grain bullets I se RL-15 and for the 300 grain bullets I use either H or IMR 4350.
