Question on thinner forearms... if I have a complaint on a 336, I wish the forearm was thinner/trimmer like a Win 94.

Did Marlin have any years of production that had thinner forearms? Anyone trimmed down a later model forearm? If so, was it worth it? Are the forearms thinner on the non-checkered older models?

I’ve got a late model JM 336 30-30 that is fine and shoots very well. Just wish the forearm was a little trimmer. Dad has a 1970 336 with the gold medallion in the stock. Need to go check it out to see how it feels in the forearm area and talk him out of it....

I trimmed one down earlier this year and detailed it in a thread here:

I totally agree with your thoughts on the Marlin forends and ended up very happy with how mine ended up. It's a pretty simple project you can take on with minimal tools. If you need to see any other pics let me know. The only thing left to do for my rifle is checker it but I'm waiting to find a set of tools.

Very nice! Much help.

Gonna try and find a stock set at a gunshow or in classifieds. Thanks so much!

The perch belly forearms are my favorite part of the Marlins.
