thanks so far. no chance i can move out there. The wife unit is a die-hard Virginia easterner and all the kids are out here... 60 days should give me plenty of time to acclimate for elevation, enjoy Wyoming and some hunts. i think i will start out easy with antelope, then pursue elk, lastly mule deer if am successful with the first two.

Research units to hunt in for the different species and apply for points. Speed goats are usually not found in prime elk habitat and all the better units require a few points. Eastmans Hunting Journal has a research section that might be helpful for long distance virtual scouting. Good luck!

I would take everything Eastman's recommends with a grain of salt.. Take a look at Hunt Talk forum.

As an “east of the Mississippian” who knows a few of these gents in WY and MT, if it were me I’d look to rent a place from them or one of their friends for 3 months every fall. Living out of a truck for 3 months would be rough and smelly.... Or buy some property out there?

I wrote a post on the Fire in 2011 called WY Triple where I took an antelope, elk and mountain goat in less than a week. In 2015 I tripled again with antelope, cow elk and mule deer. PM me for some details.

Aging is no longer linear starting at 40. The aging that is from 30 to 40 is x. 40 to 50 is 2x. 50 to 60 is 4x. 60 to 70 is 8x. 70 to 80 is 16x. Thee are hunts I enjoyed at 45 that I can't do now as approach 60. I could recover from a tough hunt when 40 in a few days. Now, a less tough hunt takes me two weeks to stop aching in the joints. The mountains may not have gotten steeper but as I age they get riskier for m to navigate. Hunt as soon as you can and be realistic on the adventures you can handle.
A computer once beat me at chess. I then won a kickboxing contest with the same computer. So, 1-1 to date.

Ever since reading Give Your Heart to the Hawks (Win Blevins) and Crow Killer (Raymond Thorp) i have wanted to spend some time in Wyoming, more than just a quick visit. Hence the 60 day plan. Heck, I have time to acquire a small pop up camper to make the living a little easier... planning the trip for four years from now gives me sufficient planning time to have no excuses for preparation (physically and logistics).

Non-linear aging = nice motel or heated cabin.

The sides can blow out of a popup camper in Wyoming, I know from experience. Get a hard side and you can camp anywhere without bear issues. You'll have time to catch a cutt slam if wanted.

Found that put the hard way. We wall tent it now and have had no issues other than "singing" tie downs in 60+ mph winds.

Hmmm....better do your homework. Some places in Wyoming are heavenly....others, 1955 time warped little towns.....the wind is a very real issue in many places....the average person is friendly and helpful....there are some left wing enclaves where prices are sky high....outfitters control a lot of private ranches but, there is a lot of public land (BLM and National Forest)....be aware of CWD....a while back West Nile Virus killed horses.....you may want to skip Wyoming and head to Colorado or Utah...(just kidding!)
