This past weekend I was at the local GS an asked about a target grade .22.
I could not afford an Anshutcz or a Walther but wanted something of quality.
First thing he grabs was a Mossberg 151MB. handed it to me then went to other models he had...
Truth be told from the get go I was smitten with the Mossy but played it cool.
I am a sucker for a Mancelier gun stock. crazy

Well I did not buy on the spot... considerable self restraint involved. wink
You see I was not comfortable with the front sight, it seemed jacked way to the right inside the hood.I initially thought it may be adjustable but with some reseach found the 151 and other '50s Mossys hat a changeable front sight pin.

I went back yesterday and pointed out the front sight was off, the rear sling mount was missing, and the rear breech cap had plier marks.
Offered a low ball price and She accepted it!
Now this sweet looking Vintage .22 is in the house! I need to clean and lube it and give her a try...

The often missing front hood is there,While the rear sling swivel is missing the front is there, and the front multiple pin sight is need of work...

Other that that the gun is in very nice shape externally.
Let's see what I can do here. wink

That is what I have learned! wink
After a weekend of research and parts availability I decided it was worth the roll of the dice.
Glad I did!
She cleaned up nice!

I owned a 44 US for a while and it held its own against rifles costing 3 times as much.
I’m not a huge Mossberg fan when the discussion is of shotguns, but turn the conversation to rimfires and it’s a whole new perspective

Probably had the rear swivel removed to ride the back bag better on the bench.

They're not pretty but they do shoot way better than they ought to. Had a 46b that was lights out accurate. And a few others, all very good shooters.

I respectfully disagree.
This gun is a beauty, The Mannlicher / Stutzen style stock has always appealed to me since my first time shooting an 8mm Mauser with that style.
The check riser and pistol grip just seems to "fit" for repeated mounting. It just seems to shoulder perfect for me.

I am smitten. wink

Tonight I picked up a variety of ,22 ammo to see what her favorite diet is.... my how times have changed.
Now there is a plethora of choices,
Not long ago .22 was scarce as hens teeth!

Thanks to this forum I steered away from the high powered "Hyper Velocity" an bought some sub sonic and other low powered "High Velocity" stuff.

It all boils down to what you plan on doing with the rifle. If informal or even formal target shooting is your main thing then yea be picky. But if you’re woods walking and tree rat slaying then I would find what shoots good enough accuracy wise but delivers the lethal blow every time. Either way it’s fun figuring out a new rifle. Well at least to me it is.

I want one of these...

Having recently learned of Project Appleseed , I found there is an event very close to me later this month and again in September.
I was planning on taking my Savage 93R17 but depending on how accurate this gun is, and ease of loading... I may try and qualify with it.

muffin hooked up with a missing sling swivel. asking nothing other than a "Thank You" (he will get more).
He didn't want her to go around "half dressed" and I am floored with his generosity,
I ordered a classic leather sling Wednesday and tonight it was in the mailbox. Took me less than 10 minutes in the door to get it on the rifle and adjusted.
This Mossy shoulders so sweet now, even better than before!

This morning I mounted my vintage Glenfield 4X20 3/4" tube scope..
After the chores were done I took it out for zero'ing. At first I was skeptical, way low and a tad left but a GREAT group
See..., I won this scope off ebay for only $9 and when I got it you could not turn the turret's. frown
I took them all the way apart and cleaned the decades of gunk off, then reassembled it and put it on the shelf until today.
Used a coin in my pocket and adjusted it...
After each adjustment I shot 3 groups of CCI SV's into a single ragged hole. Some of us can appreciate how easy it is to zero a nice accurate gun!
As a plus... not a single feed failure! Maybe she just had to get the lube I put in on it's first cleaning in who knows how long worked out.... or awakened from all the years of slumber.
I think we have a winner.
smile
