Hi .,

Let's start a topic here about the impressions that have if you hunted or visited Romania? What do you think about the country peoples and game?

Have you any specific expectations when you go on a trip like this?

I have been thinking of going this summer with a client who is from Romania in July.
I would like to stay on the Black Sea for a few days, enjoy the surroundings, good food and then head out to the country. He will be my tour guide. My wife chooses to stay home.

My nephew is stationed there for 12 months as well with the military and may visit him.

All advice is appreciated.

Hi Steve ,

I'll be happy if you will be in Romania this July ....and you will not regret a single moment. If you like fun and nightlife and beautiful women you should visit Mamaia on the black see but don't miss the Peles Castle, Dracula Castle, and Sighisoara
If you have enough time you also can visit Moldavian churches and Transilvania .
But all this can take more than 2 weeks and I don't know how much time are you willing to spend here.
Danube Delta is unique and should be on your bucket list
If you want I can give you some links on youtube and you can make an idea about what you want to see.
if you like food and drinks try "palinca" and we will be friends after. But good palinca you will find in Transilvania ....and also try the wines smile

Don't hesitate to ask me anything.

I have posted here before and have hunted with Horia twice. Once in the winter for driven Boar and in June for Roe Deer. Both were not only great hunts and unique experiences. If you are thinking of a European vacation, I highly suggest taking a side trip to Romania. It is an up-and-coming country and the hunting is true free range.

here red stag are not rename for the big numbers but for their trophies
Here you can see trophies from 8 to 11,5 kg ( ...and if you compare the prices with other red stag hunts - prices related to trophies weight - you will discover that the hunt in Romania is cheaper then elsewhere )

I was wondering the same thing. SKS?
On a side note. Three times we stopped in Bucharest while rotating out of Afghanistan. We are a C-130 unit and it was a good location to stop. All 3 times someone in the group was robbed. Either a bar tried to charge an extra $500 for drinks. Guy was escorted to an ATM by some thugs to get the cash. Another guy was followed from a bar and had his jaw broke, watch and wallet stolen. After that, we decided Romania wasn't such a good stop and started going to Germany. Could happen in any city but 3 for 3 was enough for us.

I read your post and I was completely astonished !!! I'm deeply sorry that you had this kind of experience in Romania, but again don't make it like a "general" situation.
I invite all that was to Romania, with me especially, if they are watching this forum to tell their impression about Bucharest and Romania.

May I make a joke ??? - if I ever come to the US and I will go to Harlem, I'm sure that I can be killed not only robbed!

One of the very nice things about hunting with Horia, is he picks you up at the airport and drives directly to the hunting area. Bucharest is like any big city with a quaint old town with great restaurants and sight seeing. It can also have big city issues.

A trip to the country side is like going back in time. For those of you who don't know, the hunting in the communist regime was limited to only a select few. As such, Romania has the largest population of Brown Bear in Europe, and some of the best quality ( Roe deer, Red Stag, Boar etc.) animals anywhere. Many Germans and Swedes are now starting to go to Romania instead of their home countries.

Where Horia hunts it is all free range.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to go on one of these hunts, I would just avoid the nightlife in Bucharest. I'm sure it didn't help that it was a C-130 full of guys who hadn't had a drink in 3 months in Afghanistan.

Horia - How much do those big boars weigh? They sure look like 400 pounds big.
