Thanks 'Flave.

All this ACP/AR talk made me drag mine out and shoot it today. I mentioned in another thread that previous owner had bent the front sight noticeably to the left. He must have been crosseyed because it printed my 230's three inches high and about six inches right at 25 yards. I took a 6" drill press vice, a substantial hammer and a mill file along for the first range trip. To correct the POI/POA divergence I padded the top of the vise and with the front sight cranked down hard in its jaws, applied hammer to vise to cold-swage the front sight vertical and increase its height a few thousandths at the same time. It's been a work in progress but I think I'm done. 230 grain flat point reload, best six at 100 yards just touching the dot with the front sight. It's obviously shooting way better than I am.

While not in the same class with other sixguns in this thread, a few years ago I reworked a Public Defender to use 45 ACP in Taurus' little 'stellar clips' which is their version of a 5 shot moon clip. It didn't shoot half bad for what it was.

I grabbed one of the Lew Horton 3" jobs that were out around 2007. Shoot the same Bear Creek 230 as Sarge, or a 255 SWC in AR brass, both over Unique. It's a decent shooter although it's the only .45 I've ever found that doesn't like a 200 SWC with 231.

Could've picked up a 25-2 at a gun show here a couple years back for $400, still kicking myself over that one.

Yeah as much as I don’t care for the barrel profile of the 25-2, I’d have probably had to snag it for that price.
Of course I’m the guy who passed up a really nice 6.5” 38/44 Heavy Duty for $400. I had no idea how scarce the 6.5” barrel is and was going through a 4” phase.

An old friend was an oddball revolver cartridge aficionado, he was at one time writing a book on hand loading the 7.62 Nagant. He had a trio of .455 Webleys that we used to shoot a lot, a plain old MK something or another, a beautiful Webley Greene Target, and a nice S&W second model. I don’t really have any desire at all to have a .455, but that old 6.5” S&W was a shooter with an action like greased glass.

Haven't seen it in person yet, Kid. It'll ship Monday. Should have it by Wednesday, latest.

I've got the Ruger Blackhawk 45 convertible.

It shoots the ACP just fine. No provision for the AR round though. I believe the rim thickness of the AR would bind up the ruger.

Believe it or not, both of these came from a late to the party attempt at a Model 63 and a "Got anything else you want to sell"? smile

That Bear Creek 45-230-FP (cast version of the Hornady 45187B) is the first coated bullet I've found that shot as well as any cast or jacketed bullet I've ever tried.

A deputy I worked with carried a 3" 625 and that thing was lights-out accurate and a hoot to shoot.

Sarge,

Was your Deputy friendxs 625 3" also a Lew Horton special? I don't think I've ever personally seen a 625 3" that wasn't a Lew Horton. And, they are fetching big bucks these days.

Still believe a 10mm AR aka .400 S&W / .400 Ruger using dedicated brass or half moon clips for 10mm Auto would be a hit in a 4 5/8 New Model Flat Top or S&W Scandium/Mountain Gun. And NO a .41 Mag don't do it.
