They are accurate and kill well in my .405 WCF.

I shoot the 250 grain version in my Marlin 1895SBL. Never have had one stay in a deer. Excellent performance and easy to get cloverleaf groups at 100 yards. They do cool off quick at longer distances because of the flat tip, but it's not really a long range rig anyhow.

Bought some Barnes factory ammo to try. Velocity sounds ok. Accuracy, we'll see. Penetration sounds great but like accuracy...we'll see. Pricey but not when you figure I get brass to reload...it was either this or get 50 bullets....

I want the 350 grain version for use here in Alaska, but the only way to get them is to buy from Buffalo Bore as they have some kind of and agreement with Barnes and Barnes does not to offer them to folks that load their own.

I moaned and groaned and they kept saying no, woe is me.

Mac,
Complete penetration / shot through Nilgai, large feral hogs, whitetail, red deer, etc.
I use them in my .405 Miroku1895 and .405 Simson double rifle. Velocity 2250 fps with hand loads.

I use other ammo also, but no time for details. smile

I will use them in my 45-70 double if needed, but no reason to waste expensive 45-70 ammo on deer and hogs. 300 grain JSP at 1500+ fps dump all medium sized "big" game nicely, including this 300 pound boar:

Domit,
The guide made the estimate (their skinning area scales broke years ago).
I shot it in a small creek water hole where it had chosen to fight the chase dogs and he cut up a couple too. The guide had to wade in and drag it out and he and the hog were soiled and wet. Another hunter shot a larger boar and it did take a couple of guys to load it onto an ATV to get it out to a truck. A few years ago, I took a huge sow there that looked so much larger than the 200 and 300 pound boars that the landowner estimated it at 600 pounds.
I will try to post a link to that story with pix.- October 6 , 2018.
